September 7, 2010

Dear Families,

Please remember in your prayers, the soul of Mrs. Valentour’s grandmother who died last week. She is attending the funeral today. Her grandmother had a good, long life – but suffered much this past year after severe burns and finally hurting her hip. May she rest in peace.

Our first Mass is this Friday with Msgr Ed Weisenburger, rector at Our Lady’s Cathedral. He loves coming to Villa Teresa and we enjoy his homilies and presence with us. On days we have Mass for our K-4th graders, our LC 3 and LC 4 will have a very special prayer service.

Yes, we have Tuesday Notes this week instead of Monday Notes. We want you to be kept up with events as there are many. Today at 8:35 a.m. the K-4th graders were introduced to their first service project, St. Jude’s patients. For the last 15 years, we have participated in various ways to help children with terminal illness to receive the necessary medical help and possible research for a cure. Parents of K-4th graders will be given permission slips today so that we can order Math books to complete problems and get sponsors to donate to help children their own age who are terminally ill.

On Wednesday, September 8, we are blessed to have the Arts Council of Oklahoma City share a Story Teller with us. He will entertain us after our prayer service honoring Mary’s Birthday. Thank you, Sr. Joseph Marie for making cupcakes and the Birthday cake.

Tomorrow is also the deadline for our Cookie sales. I hope the weekend helped in your efforts.

We welcome Mrs. Green this Thursday with IdentiKid. She will come and take pictures for identification cards for your child. Permission slips were sent home last week.

Our First Grandparents’ Luncheon was fantastic!!! Lots of people who stayed and enjoyed their little ones on the playground. Our Second Grandparents’ Luncheon is this Friday for Kindergarten and First Grade. Lunch will start at 11:15 a.m. for kindergarteners and 11:40 a.m for First Graders.

Mark your calendar for Tuesday, September 14 our PTO Meeting at 5:30 p.m. from now on, we will have carnival meetings at 5:30 p.m. Also remember, our Archdiocesan Teachers’ Meeting is on Friday, September 17 – we are closed and no day care is available.

Soccer season begins this weekend. Some time this week you will receive your team’s roster and the game schedule will be posted on the CGSAA website. I love soccer! Our little cheerleaders will not be able to cheer at the games, but will entertain us Friday at assembly. As soon as we have scheduled our 4 year old soccer games, perhaps they can come and cheer them on. Those games are held at the vacant lot next to the convent.

We didn’t have our Student of the Month assembly on the calendar – this month, it will be on Thursday, September 23 at 8:35 a.m. (K-4) and 9:00 a.m. (LC 3 and LC 4). This year’s Gospel value is Responsibility. Awards are given with those selected by their teacher for showing responsibility in various areas of the school and classroom. You will be notified if your child is the recipient so you can arrange some time to come for the ceremony.

Dear Families,
We just got word of Hank’s passing – he had been the Soccer Commissioner for CGSAA for many years. It was so soon – his son and daughter, Brian and Maria are former students.

You should have received our calendar and menu for September. We had a little technical difficulty in sending, but re-sent in smaller dosages. September is full of activities.

I want to thank all of you who attended your classroom orientation sessions. These are very helpful in determining expectations, following guidelines and a forum for asking all those questions which cross your mind. I also want to thank those of you who helped with our first staff meeting in supervising the little ones.

Our first service project begins next week! Kindergarteners through fourth graders will be participating in the St. Jude’s Mathathon to help children with terminal illnesses.
Dear Families,
We made it!!!! The first week of school! Wasn’t it a lot of fun! I always enjoy the enthusiasm – and the heartfelt experience of parents seeing their little ones mark another milestone. Know you are in our prayers and we are so happy you have chosen Villa Teresa as your learning environment. Your children will learn much – but the most important lesson they will learn is that Jesus loves us and that we can embrace that gift of love and love each other.

THERE ARE SOME WHO PULL UP INTO THE FIRE LANE TO DROP OFF YOUR CHILD – THIS IS UNSAFE! FOR YOU AND FOR LITTLE ONES BECAUSE YOU CANNOT SEE AS YOU ARE BACKING OUT. The fire lane is to be clear at all times, we have police officers who regularly come by and ticket those not complying to such regulations. Several parents have volunteered to watch for tags of vehicles violating this important regulation, your tag number will be turned over to the authorities.

If you are interested in our Sports’ program, there is a general meeting on Tuesday, Aug 31 at 5:30 p.m. in the School Cafeteria. Our sports’ program begins with students who are in LC 4 through 4th grade.

At the end of each Orientation Session, training for our Safe Environment program is given. In order for you to be a volunteer in our school you will need to go through this training. It includes watching the video, reading and signing the Code of Conduct and filling out a volunteer application which will be submitted for a background check. During your orientation session, the teachers will explain the curriculum your child will receive in their class sometime during the first semester.

Dear Families,
Welcome to Villa Teresa School! We are in our 77th year of serving families in Oklahoma City. There were so many who came to Open House even though we were in the midst of more than 100 degrees. We have several new staff members – Rachel Vallee (LC 3), Janie Patrick (LC 2 ½ ), Cary Holton (LC 4), Gary Hoeffken (Third Grade), Ashleigh Adams (fourth grade) and teacher assistants – Patricia Yanez (First Grade – she will also be teaching Spanish for our LC 4 students), and Blair McGhee (Kindergarten). We also have a new kitchen staff – Emily Walsh and Stephanie Stubbs.

At Open House, you received your Parent/Student Handbook – please read carefully! Also fill out forms in the side panels – we would like them back in the office by August 27. In the cafeteria during Open House, there were several volunteer opportunities for you to sign up – if you are interested, please contact the office. The PTO has a new website where you can see the latest – very nice site, Thanks to Diana Bittle. (vtspto.com) There were also opportunities for your child to participate in the areas of sports, Girl and Cub Scouts, applied arts – guitar, piano, dance, violin or cello or cheerleading. If you were unable to get to the table (it was quite crowded), feel free to contact the office – we will add you to the list.

Besides working through adding an additional third grade, we were challenged in creating a space for our third kindergarten room. Mrs McKinley was invited to move in with us at the convent – and now has a wonderfully huge classroom which we fondly have named “Kinder Village”. Feel free to stop by and visit – it is darling. I love this time of year because our teachers have worked in the midst of training sessions to create such a beautiful, loving environment for learning.
We are so blessed to have a fantastic staff who help the Carmelite Sisters to fulfill their mission in educating our youth.

Thanks to all who signed up to be Homeroom Parents – you are awesome! Beth DeGrace will be scheduling a meeting soon to introduce to you your responsibilities. Speaking of responsibility - our staff has chosen the Gospel value this year to be “Responsibility”.
We have a ceremony, the last Friday in the month (September will be our first). Two or three students will be chosen from each class who modeled this Gospel value. A certificate is given and as many guests and you would like to attend is invited to come.

We hope you enjoy your time with us! We are excited about school starting.
Menu for the week of Aug 16-20
Monday, Aug 16 – Chicken Alfredo, green beans, peaches, milk
Tues., Aug 17 – Crispitos, carrots and peas, Mexican rice, pudding, milk
Thursday, Aug 19 – Salisbury steak, mashed potatoes and brown gravy, peas, mixed fruit, milk
David Knight is the author and creator of the program. “Immersed in Christ is a simple plan for transforming the “religion” of all the people in the pews into a spirituality of dynamic, conscious interaction with God for the sake of transforming the world – beginning with personal and family life, parish, school and workplace.”

INVENTORY: How do you feel about change in the Church? Do you become upset when words of familiar songs are changed? When phrases from foreign languages are added to accommodate immigrants?
INPUT: We ask God to save, not just us, but everyone “who trusts in you”. Our true union is found in our desire for what God promises.
Scripture: Isaiah 66:18-21; Luke 13:22-30; Hebrews 12:5-13
August 6, 2010

Dear Families,

Thank you so much for joining us this summer! To our new families anticipating a new school year! We are so excited!

Our kindergarten class that was held in the cottage suffered through deep waters – one episode before the floods and then during the floods – so we’re in the midst of re-evaluating structural changes as well as repairing the damage of broken pipes and flooring replacement. All of which is too much to consider completing before school starts. So Mrs. McKinley is setting up in the convent! She has a great room site adjacent to our dining room and lots of space!!! The kids will love it and so will the sisters.
Remember next week, we are closed! Teacher training sessions will be all week – with time to spend sprucing up our classrooms. We invite you for Open House! Saturday, August 14 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.

There seems to be some confusion on our dress code for LC 4 – Villa Teresa t-shirts and navy or khaki pants or skirts are acceptable Monday – Thursday and free dress on Fridays.

If per chance, you ordered school supplies and did not choose home delivery – please call. Several have been delivered here at school – but some have no names – so we don’t know where to put them.

If you are looking for volunteer hours before school starts – our yard attendant would appreciate some help as well as some cleaning projects in the school. Just give us a call in the office.

God bless you! Have a great rest of the summer!

Immersed in Christ (Nineteenth Week of Ordinary Time) Do not live in fear. But be dressed for action.
INVENTORY: what are you most concerned about in life? What do you consider your greatest responsibility? Your main job? What motivates you? What intimidates you?
INPUT: What we ask God for as our Father is to “touch our hearts” to make them grow toward the fullness of life he promises, and “touch our lives” to make them signs of his love toward all people.
Scripture: Wisdom 18:6-9; Luke 12:32-48; Hebrews 11:1-19
INSIGHT: To “be Christ” is to make visible the Good News.
INITIATIVE: Express to others what Jesus has expressed to you.

Principal's Notes: Friday, July 30, 2010

Summer Friday Notes
July 30, 2010

Dear Families,
Thank you for sharing your little ones with us this summer. It has been a fantastic summer. For those of you returning to your regular school, we hope you consider Villa Teresa next summer. We are also available during spring break and Christmas holidays if you should need our services for daycare.

So that you can plan ahead due to budget challenges, next summer we will no longer allow credits for vacation absences. We are also considering an activity fee that may help fund entertainers that come to visit and swimming pool expenses (we most likely will need to repaint before opening next summer, another cover is needed, and various other pool needs). Announcements of specific costs will be made early February and on the website before we open next summer.

This week concludes our formal Summer Program. Next week is daycare – children can bring a toy item to share. Mechanical or computerized games are not allowed. Please remember to take home all swimming items (towels, suits, swim shoes, etc).

We welcome our new families and look forward to your being at Open House, Saturday, August 14 from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. We are closed the week of August 9-13 for teacher training. The FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL is Monday, August 16.

Open House is an excellent opportunity to come meet your teacher and to orient your child to their new classroom. In the main school’s cafeteria, informational tables for various activities will give you an opportunity to sign up your child for extracurricular activities (sports, dance, piano, violin, martial arts, cheerleading). Our Spanish and P. E. teachers will also be present for you to talk with them about their courses.

We ask that you seek opportunities to volunteer – parental involvement is very important. There are some opportunities, such as gardening which could be arranged after hours or on the weekends. Lunch hour cafeteria duty can help a teacher be able to have some quiet time at lunch and ease the workload of the server. It’s just another way to explore volunteer opportunities.

A big thanks to all our teachers – who worked very hard this summer creating a fun and enjoyable summer! We are truly blessed to have such great STARS!!! This Friday, Mr. McGhee came as storyteller – sharing Dr. Seuss with us. Sr. Joseph Marie – who is supposed to be on vacation – popped popcorn and provided an enjoyable movie for the children.

Menu for August 2- 6, 2010
Monday, August 2 – Tuna salad sandwiches, green salad and applesauce, milk
Tuesday, Aug 3 – Meat and cheese nachos, refried beans, chocolate pudding, milk
Wednesday, August 4 – Bologna sandwiches, chips, pickles and oranges, milk
Thursday, August 5 – Cheese ravioli, corn and pineapple slices, milk
Friday, August 6 – Chicken wings, potato rounds, jello with mixed fruit, milk

Immersed in Christ (Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time) A Way of Life
INVENTORY: What is life all about? What do you want out of living? Are you getting it? Is it enough? Are you in Control? Directing your life toward what you really desire?
INPUT: If we think we can acquire true freedom by changing something in our environment, or in our relationship to someone else, we do not understand ourselves. Enslavement is always an inside job. It is an interior problem of attitude and will. Jesus said, “If you…are truly my disciples, you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.”
Scripture: Ecclesiastes 1:1-2:23; Luke 12:13-21; Colossians 3:1-11
INSIGHT: What are you living for? Are you directing your life to this end?
INITIATIVE: Make a rule of life for yourself.

Principal's Notes: Friday, July 23, 2010

Summer Friday Notes
July 23, 2010

Dear Families,
Wow! What a turn out last night! Such a huge crowd – lots of new families – some of which did not even get past the dinner line – it was sooooo long! Thank you for your contributions, especially the Scott and Catherine Anderson who helped in the serving area along with Lathonya Shivers. We also appreciate the clean up crew – wonderful volunteers who already now have hours to count for this year (smile). Make sure you document in the guest book in the window at the office.

We did learn that next year, we will have donations on each table (or at least four or five tables so that we can serve more family style. Some people waited more than half an hour in line.

The children did not seem to mind, several cried when it was time to go. This is due mostly to the water balloons! My sister, Sr. Joseph Marie starts weeks ahead filling those balloons – and I image there were about 1000 balloons – no exaggeration!

Next week is our last week of summer program! Amazing! It will also be the last week for swimming. Two of our swim team will be attending archdiocesan training sessions. August 2-6 we will have daycare. Children can bring toys on Fridays and daycare weeks. Don’t forget the week of August 9-13, we are closed for teacher training and for those of you joining us in the fall, Open House is Saturday, August 14, 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. You will have the opportunity to sign up for various activities and once again come to meet others who begin their journey with you at Villa Teresa.

Today we were graced to have a story teller – Mr. McGhee! He loves Dr. Seuss and is quite entertaining bringing to life the words from the pages. Next week’s theme is “Animal Stars” and on Friday, we will have a special Movie Day at 9:30 a.m.

Those interested in Girl Scouts, there is a meeting at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, July 26.

Menu for July 26 – 30
Monday, July 26 – Chicken and rice, green beans, peaches, milk
Tuesday, July 27 – Hamburgers with cheese, lettuce, tomato slices, grapes, milk
Wednesday, July 28 – Macaroni and cheese, raw broccoli, mandarin oranges, milk
Thursday, July 29 – Chili dogs, fries, carrots, tropical fruit mix, milk
Friday, July 30 – Beef patties, squash, jello, milk

Immersed in Christ (Seventeenth Sunday in Ordinary Time)
Prayer, hope, and ministry
INVENTORY: What is the key to praying well? What should we pray for –especially as ministers? What gives us hope that our prayers will be answered?
INPUT: The opening prayer gives us reasons to pray with hope. It encourages us to see what God is and does: god is holiness, beauty, and power. We ask God to open our eyes that we might see your hand at work in the splendor of creation, in the beauty of human life. Touched by your hand our world is holy. We need to remember that when things look dark.
Scripture: Genesis 18: 20-32; Luke 11:1-13; Colossians 2:12-14
INSIGHT: What are driving desires of your life. Are these what you pray for?
INITIATIVE: Say the “Our Fathers” daily, trying to make Christ’s priorities your own.

Principal's Notes: Friday, July 16, 2010

Friday Notes
Thank you for your prayers, and expressions of sympathy in the loss of our dear Sr. Teresa. It was especially meaningful because of her love of the children and our school. She would often sit at dinner and say, “You have some of the most beautiful children in the world.” I do so agree! And beautiful families!

Let’s get together and celebrate!! Family Night is next Thursday, July 22 at 5:30 p.m. Don’t forget to bring – LC 3 meat; LC 4 vegetables; Kindergarten salads; Grades 1-5 chips and dips; staff paper goods, and new families – desserts.

When I came back – plastered over each of the building’s doors was our no peanut sign – it seems that some of our new members don’t know – we do not serve peanut butter due to some serious allergic reactions. PLEASE, do not bring items with any nut items – we have some who allergic to tree nuts as well.

The students seemed to enjoy Chester the Clown last week – he loves coming to Villa Teresa. This week we have the traditional Talent Show – where the students are the entertainers themselves. The show starts at 9:30 a.m. Next week we will have Mr. McGhee as a storyteller. He is very entertaining.

It is looking as if our last swimming day will be July 30th, two of our swimming teachers
will be involved in Archdiocesan training.

Menu for July 19-23, 2010
Monday, July 19 – Chicken nuggets, spinach, bananas, milk

IMMERSED IN CHRIST (Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time)
Love as a Way of Life
INVENTORY: The Gospel must be our rule of life in order that our joy is full.
INPUT: Prayers at Mass all speak of forward motion: of guidance and growing. God’s light guides us to love as God loves so that we might become what God calls us to be. Our first move in growing is to ask God for direction.
Scripture: Deuteronomy 30: 10 – 14; Luke 10: 25-37; Colossians 1:15 –20.
INSIGHT: Can I adopt ministry and discipleship as a way of life? What more would I add?
INITIATIVE: Read Scripture every day; then focus on showing love to every person you meet.

Principal's Notes: Friday, July 2, 2010

Summer Friday Notes
July 2, 2010

Dear Families,
Happy Fourth of July!!! You’re getting this early! Because I’m going on vacation!!!! While I’m away, Mandy is at your service and will be able to assist if you should need anything. I will be in contact with her and have availability to e-mail so everything should go smoothly (smile). Friday morning about 9:30 a.m. the children and teachers will begin their parade which encompasses the entire campus, plus visiting the Sisters. The art classes have made some beautiful props and I even here we have a guest appearance of Uncle Sam, himself.

Remember Monday, July 5th we are closed.

Next week we have “Silly Stars” and will be entertained by Chester the Clown. Children are encouraged to wear a silly hat. To cover Chester’s charge, all are asked to bring $2.00. The performance is for students from LC 4 – Group C.
The week of July 12th, we focus on the talents of our children. There is a Talent Show featuring any of those who volunteer to share their special talent at 9:30 a.m. on July 16.

This past Wednesday, our Divine Cheerleaders represented Villa Teresa well in entertaining the residents of Great Lakes Nursing Home. The guest of honor was 94 years old.

Girls who are interested in participating in Girls Scouts – there is a meeting on the following Mondays – July 12 and 26 at 3:30 p.m.

Mark your calendar for Thursday, July 22 – Family Fun Night! 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. It’s a potluck picnic (bring enough for your family and possibly one other family – the same size as yours). LC 3 (meat); LC 4 (vegetables); Kindergarten (salads); Grades 1-5 (chips and dips); staff (paper goods); New families (desserts).

About 20 people attended the chair/co-chair meeting last Tuesday. What a great way to start our school year. We so appreciate your enthusiasm to help Villa Teresa School.

Menu for July 1-9, 2010
Thursday, July 1 – Pork ribletts, carrots, mixed fruit, milk
Friday, July 2 – Bologna sandwiches with cheese, pickles, corn on the cob, watermelon, milk
Friday, July 9 – Chicken patties, mashed potatoes and gravy, sliced bread, peas, milk

Immersed in Christ (Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time) Putting Ministry in Focus

INVENTORY: What did Jesus come to give us? – not “pie in the sky when we die,” but on this earth? What does being a Christian do for you here and now? How do you experience your religion? As restricting? As depressing? As threatening? How do you experience Church?
INPUT: The prayers of Sunday’s Mass contrast Jesus’ promise of “joy that lasts forever” to the “empty promises of passing joy” held out by sin. We see the promise of God in relationship to the reality of life as we know it in this “fallen world,” and we ask him to “free us” and “purify us” from sin. But our focus is on the hope restored by Jesus. Christianity is joy. If we do not have joy, we have not understood Christianity.
Scripture: Isaiah 66:10-14; Luke 10:1-20; Galatians 6:14-18
INSIGHT: Do you see that Christianity is “life to the full” – both now and forever?
INITIATIVE: Re-read the five principles of ministry (Found in Luke –1. Rejoice; 2. be disciples-students of the word; 3. Be prophet bearing witness to the values of Christ; 4. Be priests – present our bodies as a living sacrifice communicating to others the invisible life of God within us; 5 Be stewards – think of ourselves as servants of Christ. Embrace these principles as your way of life.

*** Please pray for Fr. David Knight, author of Immersed in Christ – who recently has had a recurrence of prostate cancer. Even though sick, he is rapidly writing his last condensed version of Immersed in Christ which will summarize the whole program. He has been such a gift to the Church and will continue to be.

Principal's Notes: Friday, June 25, 2010

Summer Friday Notes
June 25, 2010

Greetings Everyone!
We are really experiencing summer! These hot, sultry days are such a vast extreme from last December’s freezing weather – perhaps the memory of both can be comforting as we seek to find a middle ground (smile). Let us continue to pray for those who are still recovering from either the hail or flood damage in recent weeks. The basement at the convent took a hard knock from flood waters – and our little cottage still is awaiting inspection as to what we might be able to do to recover. The good news is that the pipe situation between the swimming pool and the convent is being resolved and dirt is being reassembled.

We are really blessed with our swim team this year. Today, they spent hours brushing excess paint from the sides of the pool (which make the water look murky after the first swimming group completes their lesson). They even came back last night to shock the pool. They are so dedicated. After this process, we hope we can assure a more consistent schedule in swimming.

Today the K-4th grade groups were able to see the “Mad Scientist”. Some of our entertainers have a fee – so it helps for your child to bring a dollar to help with expenses.

Tuesday, the 29th we’re having a fun meeting! All those of you who are coming in the fall are invited to come and offer ideas about our various events. We need chairpersons for all the events.

Next Friday, July 2 – we will have an all school parade celebrating our country’s Birthday! The parade will begin about 9:30 a.m. Come join us! Next week’s theme is American stars (the focus of activities will be on U.S. History).

Next Wednesday, June 30th is the deadline for on-line ordering of school supplies.

Menu for June 28 – 30
Monday, June 28 – Cheese Enchiladas, corn, salad, pineapples, milk
Tuesday, June 29 – Chicken pot pie, mixed vegetables, bananas, milk
Wednesday, June 30 - Tacos, green beans, salad, apple sauce, milk

Immersed in Christ (Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time)
Serving God in Freedom
INVENTORY: In one sentence, what am I living for? Would I call this my “ministry”? Am I willing to sacrifice everything else for it? Am I conscious of it all day long?
INPUT: The themes in the scripture readings for Sunday relay four truths for ministry – God is my all; God is my refuge; God is my counsel; and God is always present.
Scripture: 1 Kings 19:16-21; Luke 9:51-62; Galatians 5:1-18
INSIGHT: What Idols must I renounce in order to be free?
INITIATIVE: Be alert to the priorities that guide your choices. Call them into question.

Principal's Notes: Friday, June 11, 2010

Friday Notes
June 11, 2010

Dear Families,

We have finished the first week of Summer Program. The K-4th graders enjoyed Field Day with Ms Holder Thursday – lots of fun activities! Our smaller aged students have been tossing balls, drawing pictures of their favorite sport, and playing all kinds of games. Our entertainer this week was Mr. Gary Hoeffken who came as a Westerner. Next week is our Vacation Bible School Week, each day will be devoted to prayer and learning various Bible Stories. The week will conclude with a prayer service.

We’re celebrating our Fathers this week – Either Wednesday or Thursday, dads can come and eat with their 2 ½ , three and four year old students. Depending on your availability, you may swim with your child (check the swim schedule to make sure it’s a day they swim). K-4th grader’s dads or uncles, or grandfathers can come Friday and swim at their regular time. We want you to know how important you are! Know you are in our prayers!

It’s a new term and perhaps you do not know, but to park or pull up in our fire lanes could get you a ticket!!!! It’s very dangerous for our little ones who sometimes slip away from parents and backing out where you shouldn’t be could end up in tragedy. I have instructed those who express concern to take down tag numbers so I will be able to talk with you directly about it. This past year, we were fortunate that the police department bore down on several offences – illegal parking, u-turns, parking in the fire lanes, several offences. You never know when they are around and by the time you find out it’s too late! Truthfully though, I’d rather them ticket than for us to be picking up an injured person.

The Archdiocese requires us to inform you of procedures involving the safety of our children. Since so many of you are new and this is a new quarter, please note the following: “For the safety of children and the healing of victims, the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City provides an Abuse of Minors Pastoral Response Hotline. Calls to this number will be answered by the Archdiocesan Assistance Coordinator who will offer to meet with the callers in person, if the caller so desires. Calls are confidential, with the following exceptions:
• Any allegation of sexual or physical abuse or neglect concerning those who currently are minors must be reported to the Oklahoma Department of Human Services (1-800-522-3511)
• Any allegation of sexual misconduct must be shared with the proper authorities.”

Our PTO is hold a summer meeting for families interested in chairing or co-chairing a committee during the 2010-2011 school year on June 29 at 5:15 p.m. Pizza and childcare will be provided.

Menu for June 14-18, 2010
Monday, June 14 – BBQ Chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, sliced pears, milk
Tuesday, June 15 – Macaroni and cheese, peas, apricots, milk
Wednesday, June 16 – Steak fingers, carrots, mixed fruit, milk
Thursday, June 17 – Burritos, mixed vegetables, apples, milk
Friday, June 18 – Chicken nuggets, corn, mandarin oranges, milk

Immersed in Christ (The Eleventh Sunday of the Year)
The First Law of Ministry

INVENTORY: Does God ever “give up” on us? Does anything make God turn away from us in disgust? Are we ever justified in turning away from each other? How does the Eucharist fit in to the answer we give to this question?

INPUT: The basic message of the readings in this Mass is that God never turns away from his people or from any individual person. The Psalm encourages us to go to God no matter what we have done, because God will never desert or despise us.
Scripture: 2 Samuel 12: 7-13; Luke 7: 36 – 8:3; Galatians 2:16 – 21

INSIGHT: Do I judge myself and others by past works or by present evidence of graced faith, hope, and love?

INITIATIVE: In ministry, be guided by Jesus’ words to Peter: “If you love me, feed my sheep!”

Summer Notes: Friday, June 4, 2010

Friday Summer Notes
June 4, 2010

Dear Families,
Welcome to Villa Teresa’s Summer Program! We are excited about your being with us this summer – we hope it is a very enjoyable experience. Our theme this summer is an “All-Star Program”. Each week has a specific element to this major theme. Week 1 – Shooting Stars (Athletics), Week 2 – Vacation Bible School Week (Jesus Christ Super Star), Week 3 – Spooky Stars (Science) and Week 4 –American Stars (Fourth of July).

In case you may have missed picking up the summer handbook – you want to make sure your child has sunscreen. Our younger students (2 ½ - K) need a small pillow light blanket, swimsuit, bath towel (not too large) and slip on shoes for use at the pool area. For class and outside play, they must wear tennis shoes, not flip-flops.

We have some changes in staff. New to this summer are Semiya Williams (new after school care helper), Patricia Yanez (who will be our first grade teacher assistant next school year and this summer kindergarten teacher), Janie Patrick (Substitute teacher), Chelsee Freeman (New after school care helper), Cary Holton (Substitute kindergarten teacher and LC 4 teacher for the fall), Cassie Barnett (LC 4 teacher for the summer). Summer helpers who returned are Mary Ann Pickens, Isabel Orozco and Kevin Hicks.

Our swimming team consists of Blair McGhee, Ashleigh Adams and Desiree Robinson (who is being trained next week as lifeguard). Due to information being relayed later than usual, we will begin swimming the week of June 14th.

Fathers’ Day celebrations will occur on June 16-18. LC 3 and 4 dads can join their little ones for swimming at their regular time on Wednesday and Thursday. Check your child’s schedule for when they swim. K-4th graders can invite their dads to lunch and swimming on Friday, June 18 at their regular lunch and swim time. June 18th also concludes our Vacation Bible School Week and we will have a prayer service in the cafeteria at 9:00 a.m.

For those coming in the fall, your order for the First Day School Supplies is June 30.

Menu for June 7-11, 2010
Monday, June 7 – Chicken patties, peas, diced peaches, milk
Tuesday, June 8 – Tuna sandwiches, cooked carrots, mandarin oranges, milk
Wednesday, June 9 – Hamburgers, mixed vegetables, applesauce, milk
Thursday, June 10 – Spaghetti, garlic bread, green beans, pears, milk
Friday, June 11 – Breakfast for lunch, bananas, orange juice, milk

Immersed in Christ (Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ)
“The Lord feeds his people” – through each other

INVENTORY: What is the main blessing Eucharist has for you? What do you look forward to on the way to Church? How do you feel afterwards? If there were no Eucharist, how much would you miss it? Why?

INPUT: Receiving the body and blood of Christ in Eucharist is a “a sign that even now we share your life.” If we use the time of silence after Communion to be aware of Christ’s presence within us, we will experience this. Communion is a physical sign or experience of what “grace” or “salvation” is: the favor of sharing in the divine life of God. With his life in us, we have inside of us, as our possession, all we need to be perfectly happy for all eternity.

Scripture: Genesis 13:18-20; Luke 9:11-17; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26

INSIGHT: What is the one central reason why we participate in Eucharist?
INITIATIVE: At Mass offer yourself with Christ and in Christ for the “life of the world.”

Principal's Notes: Monday, May 17, 2010

Monday Notes

May 17, 2010

Dear Families,

Thank you so much for sharing your little ones this year with us! It’s hard to believe that this is our last week of school. It has been a fantastic year for everyone! But as we differ from other schools – we say have a great summer on Friday and Good Morning again Monday morning (smile). The next two weeks after May 21 are day care only weeks – which means your child can bring a toy to play with beginning May 24. No mechanical or electrical toys are allowed. Please make sure whatever they bring that their name is on the toy. The business office wants to remind you that the last week of May will be billed separately at the beginning of June. Charges are weekly for these next two weeks - $115 for one child and $217 for two, $329 for three. If payment is made by automatic draft this charge will be taken out in June unless paid in the office. Automatic drafts will continue in the summer. Our formal Summer Program begins June 7.

All tuition and registration must be current to return for the summer. Please check with Ticia in the business office if you have any questions. Report cards are given out this Friday. Students in Kindergarten through fourth grade must return library books before you receive your card. This time you keep your original card.

You are all to be congratulated for your generosity in volunteering this year. We had almost 5000 worth of volunteer hours. Our newest list of those completing hours are J B Fitzpatrick, Stacy Nix, Sheri and Bryan Neal, Jodi and Jay Wall, Brandi Salsman, Jacki Millspaugh, Jason and Mari Knight, Cheryl Homen, Mark and Adrienne Braley, Tia Yancy, Karen and Brian Robinson, Lori Bonin, Michael and Laura Fought, Lonna and Tim West, Rock and Angie Holland, Chaya and Mike Fletcher, Michael and Leslie Saenz, Charles and Rosie Butler, Heidi McConville, Steven and Stacy Frakes, and Erika and Tom Conduff.

Our Third and Fourth graders are performing our traditional Irish Jig today at 2:30 p.m. It’s something to see! I want to thank our dance teacher, Cassie Herd for making this possible. She stepped up to the challenge when it was obvious I didn’t have a leg to jig on (smile). A big thanks also goes to Tammy Valentour and Jeanie Ciupak, their teachers.

This week we’re out of uniform (except the Jig Dancers on Monday). If you have used uniforms in good condition, you may bring them and hang them on the pole by the front office. If you’d like some payment, please pin an envelope and put your name plus the suggested cost on the envelope or you may just put the uniform on the pole.

We owe a great applause for our PTO this year – you chose the same officers we now have for the upcoming school year. Let us continue the wonderful work of building community for the betterment of Villa Teresa School.

Have a great summer! This summer, our weekly communication will be coming to you on Fridays, if you should have any questions, do not hesitate to call the office.

Special events this week: Kindergarten Graduation, Thursday, May 20 at 10:00 a.m. We can use the parking area on the corner of Dewey and 13th. It used to be the location of our kindergarten. It’s a nice walk, we will have the gate open on the Dewey Street side adjacent to LC 4. Fourth Grade Graduation is Friday, May 21 at 10:00 a.m. Parking can be available at the same site. Both groups are having a special lunch after the ceremonies.

Menu for May 17-21, 2010

Monday, May 17 – Macaroni and cheese, cooked carrots, diced pears, milk

Tuesday, May 18 - BBQ, baked beans, sliced pineapples, milk

Wednesday, May 19 – Frito pie, spinach, apples, milk

Thursday, May 20 - Egg rolls, carrots, sliced pears, milk

Friday, May 21 – Chicken Alfredo, green beans, mixed fruit, milk

Immersed in Christ (Ascension)

To Be or Not to be (Reflections by Fr. David Knight)

INVENTORY: Do I understand the plan of God for the salvation of everything that is good in the world? Do I understand that God “saves” by giving divine value to people and to all they do? Do I want to offer myself to be God’s instrument in the work of extending his salvation throughout the world?

INPUT: Christ’s ascension is our glory because it was the activation of God’s plan to give us a part – an essential part- in the work of saving the world. When Jesus “left” this world, he left it to us to carry on his work. What we do not allow him to do in and through us, will simply not get done; at least not in our time and place. We can speed up or retard Christ’s return in glory. As long as Jesus is “seated at the right hand of the Father,” our hope is absolute.

Scripture: Acts 1:1-11; Luke 24:46-53;Ephesians 1;17-23

INSIGHT: What does the Ascension of Jesus say to you now? What does it inspire you to be?

INITIATIVE: Commit yourself to make constant changes in your lifestyle. Make it bear witness.

Principal's Notes: Monday, May 10, 2010

Monday Notes
May 10, 2010

Dear Families,
Thank you so much for all the many surprises this past week – in anticipation of my birthday! Each day is a joy to share with you - and a precious gift – thank you for being part of our Villa Teresa family.

These weeks are filled with special events. Last Friday, all of our students gathered in our grotto area for the crowning of Mary. This is one of our most treasured traditions. Payton Hooper crowned Mary this year, making the fourth boy in the history of Villa Teresa. Other prayer leaders from fourth grade were Erica Browne, as crown bearer; banners – Hunter Knight and Matthew Lewis and our cross bearer, leading the procession was Jordan Ashworth. Our third graders assisted as flag and tray hosts.

This afternoon at 4:00 p.m. we will have our Piano and Violin recital. Lindsay Krug is our violin teacher, but is graduating this year from college and will be returning to Wyoming. Our piano teacher is Ms Ellen Um, our teacher for the 2 ½ year olds.

PTO meeting is Tuesday, May 11 at 5:30 p.m. Come and hear about the success of our Spring Soiree and to meet next year’s officers and also show appreciation for the hard work this slate of officers have performed.

Wednesday is RED HAWKS Day! We hope you enjoy being at the ballgame. Villa Teresa has a huge section. Go Villa!!!!

Our Poetry Festival is Thursday, May 13 at 9:00 a.m. and the last Mass of this school year is this Friday, at 9:00 a.m. with Monsignor Weisenburger joining us. Our first graders will be presenting a special program for their parents at 1:30 p.m. that day and LC 3 will have their graduation at 5:30 p.m. that evening.

Please make sure your report cards have been returned to your teacher by this Friday.

If you have not ordered your yearbook this year - don’t miss out! Matt Frost is our editor again this year and does a fantastic job in putting this memorable gift together. It is magnificent. To preorder copies they are $30.00 each. You can also submit ads that will help reduce the total yearbook price. Love Notes to your little one is also part of the yearbook with an infant picture.

This year, we’re trying something new! Online ordering of school supplies! You can get a copy of your child’s school supply list from the website or at school – log into www.1stdayschoolsupplies.com and actually have front door service – delivery at your home. Order by June 30. Information cards are at the front table in the main school building.

The week of May 17th you may bring in uniforms that your little one has grown out of and place by the front office. In the past, uniforms could have an envelope indicating your name with a suggested price for donation. Families have also just donated clothing to help others. They will remain in the front hall for three weeks and then put out again just before school starts.

Menu for May 10 – 14, 2010
Monday, May 10 – Beef stroganoff, peas, sliced pears, milk
Tuesday, May 11 – Chicken and rice, broccoli, apricots, milk
Wednesday, May 12 – Hamburgers, mixed vegetables, diced peaches, milk

Immersed in Christ (Sixth Sunday of Easter)
Joy and Peace in the Spirit of Christ

INVENTORY: What gives me my greatest joy and security in life right now? Are both of these rotted in my experience of Jesus Christ alive and dealing with me?
INPUT: Jesus has set us free from: 1. The guilt of sin; 2. The consequences of sin (death); 3. Slavery to sin (through enslavement to our culture); 4. The slavery of the law (legalism).
Scripture: Acts 15: 1-29; John 14:23-29; Revelation 21:10-23
INSIGHT: What makes me feel “at home” in church – the presence of Jesus or what?
INITIATIVE: Think of the Church ‘stripped down” to bare essentials. What would you miss?

We’re still collecting paper! Please remember no plastic, and no phone books! The bin is only a fourth filled – let’s fill it up again this month! Thanks for all the contributions last month.

Principal's Notes: Monday, May 3, 2010

Monday Notes
May 3, 2010

Dear Families,
Thanks so much for all your support to Villa Teresa School. I especially thank you for the prayers for our Sister Teresa. She had surgery last Friday and is doing well as can be expected. We know the recovery will be a long one. She is so active, she thinks she is supposed to be doing something or going somewhere and of course, she is always asking about her little friends in LC 3.

May is a very busy month! This week, we begin with our Principals’ Meeting – the first one this year on a Monday! On Wednesday, our second graders will be going on their Field Trip (Welcome back Mrs Bicks!). The Thunder Reading Bus is visiting us on Wednesday for Grades 1-4th. Each class will visit the bus and receive a book. Our LC 4 is having their end of the year program and combining that with Mother’s Day recognition, Thursday, May 6. LC 3 and K-4th grade are inviting all Moms for lunch – Friday, May 7. Due to space we ask that each family limit their guests to two. If it is sunny, LC 3 Mothers can eat at our picnic area which is next to the grotto at the convent. It will be very nicely decorated because that morning (May 7 at 9:00 A.M.), we have May Crowning.

Please check your calendar for upcoming events!

Jimi’s League had a great representation at the Autism Walk last Saturday, May 1. I think we had more team members than anyone. It was a beautiful day – sprinkles of rain every now and then allowed the temperature to be just right!

Some upcoming events: May 10- Piano and Violin recital, 4:00 p.m.
PTO meeting May 11 at 5:30 p.m. Red Hawks Baseball Outing May 12
Poetry Festival May 13 at 9:00 a.m. Mass – May 14, 9:00 a.m.
First Grade Program, May 14 at 1:30 p.m. LC 3 Graduation May 14 at 6:00 p.m. (not 5:30 p.m.)

Congratulations to our following families who have completed their 20 hours of volunteering: Karen Robinson, Tia Yancy, Lori Bonin, Debi Scurlock, Krista and William Porter, Adrienne and Mark Braley, Stacy and Steve Frakes, Leslie and Michael Saenz, Chaya and Michael Fletcher, Jay and Johanna Wall, Brandi Salsman, Jennifer Hopkins, Heidi Rodriguez, and Mark and Ann Lowery.

Tuesday, May 4 – Hot dogs, mixed vegetables, sliced pineapple, milk
Wednesday, May 5 – Spanish rice, corn, peaches, milk
Thursday, May 6 – Breakfast for lunch, bananas, milk
Friday May 7- Chicken patties, mashed potatoes, green beans, diced peaches, milk
Immersed in Christ (Fifth Sunday of Easter)
Called to Bear Fruit through Living Union with Jesus

INVENTORY: Sing to the Lord because he has revealed to the nations his saving power. What “marvelous deeds” of God to we celebrate together? Do we make them a communal experience?
INPUT: We cannot celebrate together what we have not experienced together. If God has ‘filled all ages with the words of a new song”, it is because he has “revealed his saving power”. We need to share with each other what God has done – and is doing still through us.
Scripture: Acts 14:21-27; John 13:31-35; Revelation 21:1-5
INSIGHT: What do I see that makes me say, “ I will praise you name forever, my King and My God”? How often do I share my experience of him with others?
INITIATIVE: Be a prophet. Begin talking with family and friends about what God is doing.

Principal's Notes: Monday, April 26, 2010

Monday Notes
April 26, 2010

Dear Families,

Thanks so much for all you have shared this year! Saturday’s Soiree was fantastic! So many people helped pull this event together – Thanks to all!!!! We are especially appreciative to those who took care of the children at school. They had a great time!
The dinner was great, the video/slide presentation, games, raffle, decorations and food – and so many people. I think it must have been a first class miracle to have all those donations so neatly presented and organized – we have such devoted families at Villa Teresa School. It was good to see our present families, alumni, friends, vendor representatives and even a reporter from the Sooner Catholic (that was a first!).

We owe a special thanks to Jon and Laura Christianson who donated the beautiful armoire – from Treasures Past a new addition to our Midtown businesses. And we really owe a big thanks to Kevin Durant – his autographed jersey brought in $3500. Ms Nancy’s plates always add to the excitement of the evening. This year for the sake of time, if a classroom didn’t have at least 5 parents present (3 from fourth), we kept the plates in the silent auction. For those in the live auction the highest priced plate went for $600! Wow!

CONGRATULATIONS! Villa Teresa Marathon runners! Our first school team of 18 – Yahoo!

Remember to bring back your envelope for the celebration on May 15 honoring the Archbishop who celebrates his 50th anniversary of Ordination as Priest.

We’re getting into a very busy time of the year. Please make sure you receive your teacher’s weekly letter and stay in touch with our Monday Notes, we don’t want you to miss anything!

Last Thursday, Mike Stigglets gave a wonderful workshop on “Working Together to Educate our Children”. Both staff and some families attended. We schedule these Parenting Classes to help you and actually one suggestion that came forth was the idea of having quarterly sessions with a mandatory of attending at least one. I like that idea! Of course, we may not be able to get Mr. Stigglets all the time, but know at least we do have a video of the presentation for you to check from our library. He also brought in topics concerning Discipline techniques and bullying issues. The tapes from last year are also available – Learning Styles and Discipline with Integrity.

This Saturday at the Ball Park, several of us are walking for Jimi’s League! Showing our support to help children with Autism. Villa Teresa School has collected almost $800 to help families of children with Autism. There’s still time to sign up.

Attached are ballots for PTO officers – no one suggested anyone other than our present officers (which really salutes the efforts of these very generous leaders). Thank you for supporting them in their efforts to improve our services here at Villa Teresa School.

Thanks to Steven and Stacy Frakes who completed their 20 hours of volunteering (part of which was coaching basketball!!!!).

Menu for April 26-30, 2010
Monday, April 26- Goulash, corn, mandarin oranges, milk
Tuesday, April 27 – Fajitas, beans, salad, diced pears, milk
Wednesday, April 28 – Steak Fingers, peas, salad, mixed fruit, milk
Thursday, April 29 – Chicken patties, mashed potatoes, mixed vegetables, apples, milk
Friday, April 30 – Pizza, cooked carrots, diced peaches, milk

Immersed in Christ (Fourth Sunday of Easter – The Risen Shepherd Leading His Flock to Life)
INVENTORY: How did I receive the gift of faith? Who taught me? Do I believe because of my parents and teachers, or because I have heard “the call of the shepherd.” Jesus himself? When and how did I become conscious of his voice?
INPUT: The greatest experience of God we have is our experience of his presence in our minds and hearts and wills by grace – the favor of sharing in the divine life of God. Through grace we “enjoy the light of his presence,: and “hear the sound of his voice” and “ know the strength” of “Christ our Shepherd” whom we ask to “lead our steps.”
Scripture: Acts 13:14, 43-52; John 10: 27-30; Revelation 7:9-17
INSIGHT: How do I experience Jesus speaking to me most often in private? In church?
INITIATIVE: Gather with others in church, but interact personally with Jesus.

Principal's Notes: Monday, April 19, 2010

Monday Notes
April 19, 2010

Dear Families,

Thank you for coming to Open House last Saturday – there were so many new families! And several alumni students stopped by. We love seeing our graduates! It was a busy day! Many who were so sopping wet from the track meet that morning, most probably spent the rest of the afternoon drying out! It rains about every five years – we were grateful that there was little wind which is rare in Oklahoma. We are proud of our young athletes, they were troopers!!

Today (Monday), our K-4th graders will gather for prayer at our own Memorial for the April 19th Bombing. The Class of 1995 established a memorial behind the pool area. Our prayer service will begin about 8:50 a.m. and conclude after the ringing of the bells from the downtown Memorial. Feel free to join us as we pray for peace in our world and the souls of those who perished.

This Thursday is our Parenting Class with Michael Stiglets. The topic is “We Educate our Children” which coincides with our Gospel value of Cooperation this year. Our teachers are also invited. The session is from 5:15 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Childcare is provided. We need to have a number so we can order pizza.

Our Spring Soiree is this Saturday, April 24th. Send in your reservations, we will need to let the chefs know how many are served, plus your choice of beef, chicken and vegetarian is very important. Also important, and most important is why we are celebrating – Villa Teresa School has served the metropolitan community of Oklahoma City for 76 years, hence the theme, “Spirit of 76”. We are raising funds for your children to improve educational programs which costs a great deal. Your tuition does not cover all the costs it takes to provide quality education. For next year, I am hoping to be able to get Renaissance Math which reinforces math skills and also provided extra enrichment for students who need more of a challenge. We are hoping to purchase COWS (not the four-legged kind), Computers on Wheels – that will put into the hands of each child in a classroom a laptop. Other needs include the replacement of the wall-to-wall rug in LC 3, and furnishing an additional third grade classroom.

Those of you who were here yesterday met our new teachers, Gary Hoeffken (third grade) and Ashley Adams (fourth grade). You also met the person who will be coordinating Cheerleading – Kanesha Vance. Our dance program will continue but under the leadership of the person that used to partner with Ms Herd before she started dance here. Adding on after school programs take up space that initially was feasible. We will really have to be creative in determining the time and frequency of these opportunities. We will let you know those details soon.

Last Friday you received an envelope, please make sure you return the envelope before May 3. Upon reception of the envelope, your child will receive a very special button. A special invitation to all families in the Archdiocese to attend the 50th anniversary of Archbishop Beltran’s Ordination Mass will be at Camp OLOG on May 15th at 11:00 a.m. This will be an outdoor Mass with a picnic following. There will be activities from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. that day.

Congratulations to our latest volunteers who have completed their 20 hours: Jessie and Deena Teehee, Chris and Kelly Edwards, Erick and May Petchprom, Chris Morrow, Judith Munai, Heather, Bresenham, Ed and Cristie Pendleton, Monica Hill, Sarah Hurt, Guy and Marielba Delahoussaye, Constance Burris, David Slane, Angela and Jason Barber, Susan and Matt Kane, Mark and Ann Lowery, Josh and Sarah Wang, Juliette and Durvis Hulen, Jeff and Sharon Byers, Karla and Roger White, Kelly and Anthony Goebel, Clarissa and Mike Shelton, Theresa and Tom Seitz, James and Amy Boyd, Joe and Lori Carter, Vernon and Melissa Brake, Marcos and Elizabeth Chavez, Nolan and Diane Clay, Helena Duke, Ben and Ami Bax, Bindu and Jaya Nair, and Stephanie Coffman. Thank you so much!!!!

Menu for April 19 – 23
Monday, April 19 – Chicken pot pie, corn, applesauce, milk
Tuesday, April 20 – Cheese Enchiladas, green beans, sliced pineapples, milk
Wednesday, April 21 – Beef and rice, mixed vegetables, bananas, milk
Thursday, April 22 – Tator tot cassarole, carrots, apples, milk
Friday, April 23- Corn dogs, peas, apricots, milk

Immersed in Christ (Third Sunday of Easter)
The Joy of Life in Christ

INVENTORY: What could take the joy out of my life? Have I ever sat down and thought about what I need for a joyful life? Is joy just an emotion, or do I have any free choice about what I will find joy in?
INPUT: Sunday’s opening prayer gave us some reasons for joy that do not depend on any circumstances beyond our control: “We look forward with hope to our resurrection.” Even death or the prospect of death cannot take away our joy. “You have made us your sons and daughters.” That is what we are right now. God is our Father – we share in his own divine, eternal, infinitely happy life. Felt or not, that is a treasure in which to rejoice.
Scripture: Acts 5:27-41; John 21:1-9; Revelation 5:11-14
INSIGHT: Have I found joy though risking the disapproval of others because I was faithful to the truth and will of Jesus Christ? Am I prophetically and pastorally free?
INITIATIVE: Observe rules prophetically – consistently and faithfully- no one can “feed the sheep” effectively unless they obey God.

Principal's Notes: Monday, April 12, 2010

Monday Notes
April 12, 2010

Dear Families,
You are going to be so surprised when you come in the morning! (Yes, these are written on Sunday – this time very early in the morning). I want to extend a huge welcome to all of you who came Friday afternoon and all day Saturday for our Spring Spruce UP! You have given Villa Teresa a humungous gift – trees, and flowers were planted; LC 3 painted in cafeteria, front hall and stairway – its beautiful! Swings installed – barrels painted – the landscaping – trees trimmed (oh my gosh!) and the bush behind the Memorial tree – it definitely does not look the same. Our squirrels are not going to know what to do! Even all the birds in the neighborhood have shared the Good News about the generosity of such loving parents. Thank you so much!

Next weekend is just as busy! We are participating in the Archdiocesan Track Meet (April 17) in the morning and our Open House is in the afternoon (2:00 – 4:00 p.m.). Come and see the lovely work your little ones are doing – investigate the next level and make sure you visit the activities in the cafeteria for more involvement – we are adding a new activity the coming year – cheer leading! Along with Dance, violin, guitar, piano lessons and Martial Arts, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts – that should make an interesting challenge to ‘who goes where’ on certain days – at least its all at Villa Teresa.

On Thursday, April 22, we are hosting a Parent/Teacher Inservice. Michael Stiglets is returning. Last year, he gifted us with a presentation on Discipline with Respect and Learning Styles (for the teachers). This year, the topic is “Together – We Educate Our Children”. The session begins at 5:15 p.m. You will receive a copy of the registration form with these Monday notes. Please return your intent to attend soon so we can have the proper childcare service.

The Soiree is just around the corner – please turn in reservations! There are some fantastic items up for bid – childcare is here at school and we are grateful to have four parents who have volunteered, plus some of our after school attendants coming to help. PTO is planning to get a bouncy toy – so the party at school is going to be so much fun! We would hope to have at least 75% of you come – one of the events is the auctioning of the beautiful classroom plates made by Mrs. Nancy Hazelton. In the last three years, some of the classes hardly have anyone attend – whereas, some classes have two or three families move that bid up to the $300/400 range. Remember, this benefits your children. The committee has decided that if there are only 3 families represented (with the exception of fourth grade), that plate would go in the silent auction. A class must have at least five families present to be in the live auction. The purpose is to raise funds. Some plans for funding – a new rug in LC 3, purchasing the Renaissance for Math program, COWS (Computers on Wheels – 25 lap tops that can be rotated from class to class), a new Smart Board for the new third grade class, blinds for the cafeteria, etc.

The day after the Soiree is the OKC Marathon! I will post in the next Monday Notes the time for the Kids’ Walk – we need to have a substantial number of supporters for our Villa Teresa Team cheering them to the end!

We are still collecting for Puzzle Pieces! That campaign is going very well – keep up the good work. We want to thank Ms Sonja John for coming to read to us, “My Brother, Charlie”. The students enjoyed hearing the story. Thanks to Emily Scott for donating this book to our school library.

This Thursday, April 15 – Michael Reardon and Patrick Lane will be proclaiming the Gospel of Luke at St. Eugene’s Church (2400 Hefner Rd) at 7:00 p.m. Michael was here earlier, but some performances were canceled due to the weather. It’s a perfect time – Easter season to hear the Gospel in totality. It is a wonderful experience.

This is the National Week of the Young Child. Each day our LC 3, 4 and Kindergarteners celebrate being ‘little’ – Monday is Share a Book Day – they can wear their favorite sports team jersey; Tuesday is Pajama movie Day – get to wear favorite pajamas and bring their sleeping bag to watch a movie; Wednesday is Bubble Day, must wear overalls or jeans and bring bubbles to school; Thursday is Teddy Bear Tea Party and can wear nice clothes and bring a favorite stuffed animal; Friday is Sundae Day – they get to wear their favorite T-shirts and bring ice cream topping. On Friday, the Kindergarteners will have a field trip to the Orr Family Farm – don’t forget to wave at the students at Villa Teresa Moore as you pass by.

Today, our Third and Fourth Graders are going to the Capitol for a “Drop Everything and Read Day”. They will also receive a tour and meet a very special guest.

Tomorrow (Tuesday), our LC 4 students will receive a special honor at Omniplex. Under the guidance and assistance of Nancy Hazelton, their art teacher – they won first place in their division in the Respect Diversity Symbol Contest for “Color the World with Art”. The ceremony is at 5:00 p.m. For those students not going, they will go to the Big School playground so the staff can go. Hopefully, a lot of families will attend.

Immersed in Christ (Second Sunday of Easter, Divine Mercy Sunday)
Scripture: Acts 5:12-16; John 20: 19-31; Revelation 1:9-10

All human history revolves around the cross of Jesus and takes its meaning from his death and resurrection. Give thanks to the Lord for he is good, his love is everlasting (Fr. David Knight).

Principal's Notes: Monday, April 5, 2010

Monday Notes
April 5, 2010

Dear Families,

Happy Resurrection! The forty days of Lent are over – but Easter is not! We celebrate the Easter season until Pentecost – the Birthday of the Church! So there are 50 more days of Easter!

April brings a very busy time for Villa Teresa students and staff. Our PTO Meeting is actually tomorrow at 5:30 p.m. with entertainment from LC 3. Usually our meetings are the second Tuesday of the month, but LC 4 is being awarded First Place in the Respect Diversity Symbol at the Science Museum (formerly Omniplex) by the State Superintendent, Sandy Garrett. Ms Nancy and her pre-schoolers created a magnificent display on various cultures represented at Villa Teresa School under the title, “Color Our World with Art”. The ceremony takes place at 5:00 p.m.

You are invited to join us for our Mass this Friday at 9:00 a.m. – originally it was to be Fr. Phil Seeton from St. Charles, but he’s going out of town – so the associate pastor, one of the priests from India will come to preside.

Next Week is the celebration of The Week of the Young Child. Activities for LC 3, LC 4 and Kindergarten will have the following themes – Share a Book Day (Monday), Pajama Day (Tuesday), Bubble Day (Wed), Teddy Bear Day –with a formal tea party! (Thursday) and Sundae Day (Friday).

All families are invited to Open House on Saturday, April 17 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. come see the students’ special projects and meet your next year’s teachers. That morning, grades 1-4th will be at McGuinness High School participating in the track meet. If you have not returned your form, please do so tomorrow – all names of participants need to be turned in Wednesday night at the Athletic meeting.

Mark your calendars for our Parenting Classes this year - Thursday, April 22 at 5:15 p.m. Michael Stiglets is returning this time to share his talents in the topic, “Working Together”. This coincides with our Gospel value of Cooperation this year. The education of your children depends on our cooperative efforts. It takes parents, students and teachers to make the team which creates a successful educational environment.

We forgot to put on the calendar for April our faculty meeting. It’s Monday, April 26 at 3:45 p.m. We need to thank all our parents who help watch the students while we meet. We know it is not easy. We can learn from our experiences. We had a great magician last time – but, need to split the groups – give more run about time before sitting them down. And soon those of you who are volunteering, will receive a little booklet that tells you the general rules for after care. Thanks so much for helping us improve! Anyone who volunteered this past faculty meeting will receive double hours (smile).

Thanks to Jennifer Stephens and Brandi Salsman for coordinating the tickets for the Red Hawks game – you will hear more about the day as it gets closer. We hope everyone will
enjoy the game!

Our Puzzle pieces are decorating halls and doors and classrooms. Thanks so much for contributing to the Oklahoma Families of Children with Autism. There’s still time to sign up to walk on May 1 at the Ballpark. We’re going to be so physically fit. The week before several families are representing Villa Teresa in the OKC Marathon.

Registration is going well. We now are full in the Fall for LC 4. First grade families going into second grade need to register so we can determine book orders. Spaces available are: LC 2 ½ - 6; LC 3 – 12; LC 4 – 0; K – 9; grade 1 – 11; grade 2 – 18; grade 3 – 5; grade 4 – 4. For the summer, we are full in LC 2 ½ , LC 3, kindergarten and Group B; there are 11 spaces in LC 4; 2 spaces in Group A; five spaces in group C.

Immersed in Christ (Easter Sunday – We are prophets sent to bear witness as Christ’s risen body).

INVENTORY: What do you see that needs to be changed – reformed or renewed – in our society? What do you see “the Church” doing about it? Do you think of yourself, with your family and friends, as “being the church”? Do you feel called to bear witness as Church wherever you are?
INPUT: The opening prayer asks God to “raise us up and renew our lives by the Spirit that is within us.” We were anointed at Baptism to carry on the work of Jesus: Prophet, Priest and King. It is our job description as Christians: to be the risen Christ, Prophet, Priest and King, and let him continue his mission in us.
Scripture: Acts 10:34 – 43; Colossians 3:1-4; John 20: 1-9
INSIGHT: Have I really given my body without reserves to be the body of the risen Jesus? Do I find this too threatening to deal with? What is the alternative?
INITIATIVE: Begin each day by saying, “Lord, I give you my body. Live this day with me, live this day in me, live this day through me.”

Principal's Notes: Monday, March 29, 2010

Monday Notes
March 29, 2010

Dear Families,
This week is the holiest of weeks as we prepare for the Triduum at the end of the week. The Church has many traditions – and even more when you consider how each culture of people celebrate. Tomorrow night, all the priests will gather at the Cathedral to renew their vow of obedience to the Archbishop, oils will be blessed to be used in baptisms, confirmations and ordinations of priests, and also for the anointing of the sick. Those coming into the Church will be present as many other faithful to experience the Mass we call Chrism Mass. The Triduum comprises services on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. At school on Thursday, your child’s class will also celebrate the Last Supper. We are closed on Good Friday, services that day – are usually in the evening. Holy Saturday night the new Easter candle, water and fire are blessed. Churches begin the service in the dark until the light of the Easter candle slowly lights each person’s candle – the nine readings tell the story of salvation on up to the Gospel proclaiming the Resurrection of the Lord.

Tomorrow morning (Tuesday) our four spellers, Yadin Joseph, Matthew Lewis, Makayla Seal, and Kristian Sunderland will represent Villa Teresa Catholic School in the Archdiocesan Spelling Bee. We offer our prayers in thanksgiving for their talent in spelling.

Today your child’s teacher will receive an envelope for the $1.00 donation to help provide necessary assistance to children with Autism. We hope you have signed up to participate in the Piece Walk which is May 1st at the Ballpark. This service project will involve all our students with various opportunities to share their love. We hope the children will bring more than a dollar. Two days will be out of uniform days – and in addition to that part of the project, children are actually buying puzzle pieces to decorate their classroom. The classroom with the most puzzle pieces will win a pizza and ice cream party. Checks can be made to OFCA (Oklahoma Family Center for Autism). If you have any questions, please contact Emily - emilydealscott@yahoo.com

Thanks to those who have registered. I hope all in LC 3 have for the summer, it is now full. Check the fliers on the front doors for availability of space. We need our second, third and fourth graders to register hopefully by the end of the week so I can consider spaces for classes. We are happy to announce the hire of Mr. Gary Hoeffken for an additional third grade class and Ms Ashleigh Adams for fourth grade.

There’s a Magician Today for Faculty Meeting (for the kids). Mr. William Rader is entertaining while the staff meets to help with supervision while the majority of the children are with us. Thanks to Rebecca Jolley for arranging this and certainly a big thank you to parent volunteers. The show will begin at 3:35 p.m. in the school cafeteria.

Please keep the following in your prayers as we break for Easter – Mr. Matzek, Mrs. Bridgett Bicks, our second grade teacher. Last week, Ms Ciupak’s grandfather, Fred Lawson passed away.

Reminder for OKC Marathon Runners! – Registration deadline for both adults and children is this Thursday, April 1st –online and mail in.

The business office would like to remind you that in registering, please make separate checks for registration and not combine with tuition. Remember registration is not complete without payment.

We had a really awesome retreat last Friday – based on the Corporal Works of Mercy – each class rotated to the various stations set up in classrooms. Our actors – the third and fourth graders were remarkable – I never knew they had it in them – very serious and compassionate about their role in making real feeding the poor, visiting the elderly, visiting the sick – and art work in the cafeteria – all made for a wonderful day thanks to Katherine Payne and her committee (Cassie Herd, Hope Hernandez, Sr. Mary Frances, and Sr. Joseph Marie). The day concluded by a very inspiring Stations of the Cross by the kindergarten classes. Each Friday during Lent, each class took turns as our prayer leaders.

Menu for March 29 – April 1
Monday, Mar 29 – Chicken patties, mashed potatoes, apples, milk
Tuesday, Mar 30 - Crispitos, broccoli, diced pears, milk
Wednesday, Mar 31- Chicken fingers, tatertots, bananas, milk
Thurs. April 1 – Hot dogs, corn, oranges, milk

Palm Sunday of the Lord’s Passion

INVENTORY: What is your experienced of being a “disciple” of Jesus? What questions have you asked him? What has he said that you have paid attention to? Has your experience ever proved him right?
INPUT: In the name of this celebrated day, we find two themes – Hosanna to the Son of David, the King and My, God, my God, why have you abandoned me? They give us the focus of all the readings and provide a basic Christian belief that defeat is victory and that being looked down upon is to be exalted. Authentic discipleship is to “believe and do” whatever Jesus says, and to reflect in our lives our faith-conviction that appearances can be deceptive. We accept Jesus as a model of humility. By accepting his self-emptying through humiliations and defeat as the pattern of our own lives we will be “worthy to share in his resurrection.” Discipleship is accepting what does not seem acceptable!
Scripture: Isaiah 50:4-7; Philippians 2:6-11; Luke 22:14 to 23:56
INSIGHT: In my ordinary life, how many decisions do I consult Jesus about? How much do I draw on my knowledge of his word? What have been the results when I did?
INITIATIVE: Be a disciple. Decide what will help you most to “hear and do” what Jesus says.

Principal's Notes: Monday, March 22, 2010

Monday Notes
March 22, 2010

Dear Families,
Thank you so much for your support and care and concern in regard to the vandalism at Villa Teresa Moore. We really didn’t expect two incidents back to back – I must say our media really jumped to our aid in putting the photos of two of the vandals in the face of our OKC community and even beyond. I was totally surprised to receive e-mails and calls from people all over the United States (it was also aired on CNN). The classrooms are hoping to be put together by this Monday. We did have to purchase two new rugs due to the damage that was rendered. Many of your have expressed interest in helping. LC 3 will be hosting a collection to replace items in the two three year old classrooms.

They need:
• A play kitchen
• Books
• CD player
• 19 videos
• Paint
• magnetic letters
• leggos
• beads
• matching leters
• memory games
• simple puzzles
• dolls
• construction paper
• markers
• play dough
• tricycles (3)

Registration is going well! I’m so excited. We now have enough for two third grade classrooms. Those of you in Kindergarten going to first, and first going to second – please register soon. Enrollment so far is 137 for the Summer and 171 for the Fall. This time last year we had 99 for the summer and 111 for the fall. We are still getting calls daily. You were given since February to register, we are presently registering those on the waiting list. Check the updates on doors for availability of spaces in each area. In April we open up to the general public.

Villa Teresa Students (LC 4-4th Grade) will have two out of uniform days (for a $1.00 donation) to contribute to the Oklahoma Family Center for Autism. The monies collected will go directly to help our children in Oklahoma who have autism. There is a walk held on Saturday, May 1 at the Ballpark. We would love to expand Jimi’s League and show our love and support. Contact Emily Scott for directions on how to register. The two days we’re buying for out of uniform days are March 31 and April 6. This time you actually get one of the Pieces of the puzzle to hang in our hallways.

We have more parents who are to be commended for completing their 20 hours – Cindy and Tony Hooper, Shannon and Shermon Gibson, Brian and Sook Whitley, Cindy and Terry Jones, Kathy Johnson, Josh and Catie Pettit, Tina and Kevin Wright, Marcia and Kurt Rupert, Paula Gander, Paul and Heidi Centrella and Shannon Toney. Thanks for being such wonderful volunteers!

We are having our first, annual all-school Retreat this Friday! We invite you to join us – after our Cooperating Hearts Awards, all students and teachers will enter a mode of reflection – concentrating on the corporal works of mercy as we rotate to various stations remembering that we are the Hands and Feet of Jesus. The theme is based on a phrase used by St. Teresa of Avila, a sixteenth century Carmelite saint. She said, “God has no hands but ours, no feet but ours.” Villa Teresa School is a service-oriented school that has projects each month and some that are on-going. During the retreat, there will be time for quiet prayer and concentration on learning how to be open to the Holy Spirit and ready to serve God’s people. Remember to bring a can of Vienna Sausage to be donated to BJ’s Pantry – a homeless shelter created by one of our Sisters, Sr. Barbara Joseph. You are also asked to bring a shoebox top.

Thanks PTO for our new water fountains on the second floor. There is some minor work to finish off the project – but they are pretty fancy! The students and teachers will be very excited.

Our LC 4 is to be congratulated! I just received the press release for the awards ceremony to be held on April 13 at 5:00 p.m. at the Science Museum (Omniplex), for certain all LC 4 parents and children and staff are invited – so we may need some extra volunteers for LC 4 so the staff can attend. Ms Nancy does a magnificent work with our little ones. The theme, “Color our World with Art” is revealed in projects that represent all of the various cultures of the families at Villa Teresa School. You will be amazed at what they created. The event is in its ninth year. This year we won first place in the pre-school division!! Lyn Adams, the director of the OKC Children’s Theatre and State Superintendent Sandy Garrett will present the awards.

Menu for March 22 – 26, 2010
Monday, March 22 – Goulash, corn, mandarin oranges, milk
Tuesday, March 23 – Fajitas, beans, diced pears, milk
Wednesday, March 24 – Steak fingers, peas, mixed fruit, milk
Thursday, March 25 – Spaghetti, green beans, fruit mix, milk
Friday, March 26 – Grilled cheese sandwiches, carrots, fruit cup, milk

Immersed in Christ (Fifth Sunday of Lent – Openness to Change)
INVENTORY: What kind of people are the greatest danger to Christianity today? Who were the most vicious opponents of Jesus in his time? Am I like them in any way?
INPUT: Our most dangerous enemies are those who accept religion – even cultural Christianity – but do not accept the “new wine” of Jesus Christ. Jesus came to give “new wine,” – a new teaching with authority, a new covenant and a new commandment. All Christian teachers must bring out of their treasure what is new and what is old. All of us are called to change.
Scripture: Isaiah 43:16-21; John 8:1-11; Philippians 3:5-7; 8-14
INSIGHT: How do I feel about change in the Church? About strict observance of Church laws?
INITIATIVE: In every rule you keep or enforce, imagine you are Jesus.

It’s going to be so much fun!!!

Villa Teresa Moore had a great first dinner/auction. Now I’m ready to move onto ours! The Spirit of 76 is getting closer and we need more items. Ifyou have a closet to clean out or those Christmas gifts you don’t knowwhat to do with – they could very well become someone else’s treasure.Volunteer forms are posted in the main hallway of school. Tomorrow, wehave PTO Meeting, come and help us with plans that affect your child.First graders will offer entertainment.

I hope all of you saw the feature on children with special needs. Thebill HB 3393 was passed last Thursday at the Capitol, but only afterstripping the title. It will go to the Senate, it needs some refining.Fox News learned of one of our students and came on campus to interviewone of our moms. It was a great interview.
Immersed in Christ (Third Sunday in Lent)

Disciples in Action

INVENTORY: Whyis there so much suffering in the world? Do the bad things that followfrom sin only hit the people who are guilty of sin, or does everybodysuffer from them? What is the Christian response to the sin andsuffering of the world?

INPUT: Weneed to pray- but not just to “say prayers.” The prayer to which we arecalled is prayer that changes us, changes our minds and behavior (themeaning of “Repentance,” metanoia). This change of mind requires morethan just a turning away from sin. It requires us to convert our“religion” into “spirituality”; to go beyond being just “followers” ofJesus and become his disciples. A “disciple” is a “student.” Therepentance asked of us is the decision to learn God’s mind and heart.
Scripture: Exodus 3:1-15; Luke 13:1-9; 1 Corinthians 10:1-12

INSIGHT: Do I “know” God’s name? Know him as a person?

INITIATIVE: Decide to read, reflect and respond to God’s word systematically.

Principal's Notes: Monday, March 1, 2010

Monday Notes

Let’s hope this continues. We are in the midst of registration for our present students. We hope you are eager to register during this time for it gives us a better picture for ordering and placement of classrooms for the next school year. There are several classes we are going to have to limit due to space and to assure you of quality education. Our Learning Centers are regulated by teacher student ratios of 1/8 for LC 2 ½, 1/12 for the three year olds, and 1/15 for the four year olds. If you have siblings for those particular age groups just list them with your older child when registering them. Payment is due when you turn in your paperwork. If you feel you would qualify for tuition assistance, please ask for forms from the office.

Third grade will be a little larger since we are merging the two seconds, but I don’t perceive it to be more than 28. The present fourth grade classroom can easily house 12 students, if there are more we will consider placement in another class (moving the P.E. to the cafeteria).
February 22, 2010

Dear Families,

It’s hard to believe that the end of February is already upon us! We know Spring Break is right around the corner – also Spring pictures, T-Ball, Auction – all sorts of events! Please remember in your prayers the grandparents of three of our staff members who are very ill. Actually, Saturday, I received the message that the husband of the grandmother of our fourth grade teacher, Jeanie Ciupak passed away. Please pray for the soul of Jim Alexander.

We are having dental screening this Thursday. Permission slips need to be returned before Thursday. Next week, March 2, 3 and 5th we will have our Spring Pictures taken. K-4th graders are to be in full uniform. Their picture session is on Friday. LC 3 (with the exception of Ms Emily’s class) will be on March 2 and LC 4 (with Ms Emily’s class) will be March 3. Those in LC 4 are to wear their Villa Teresa T-shirt with navy or khaki skirts or pants.

The big hoopla this week was the news article on the action taken by a local principal – on the issue of TARDIES!!! As administrators and teachers, we all could empathize – even myself – notices have gone home, calls made, conferences and even the day I read the article, we talked with our children about it. To recap, I shared with your little ones (K-4th grade) that I realized that their parents are the ones who bring them to school (unlike the high school where some of the teenagers drive themselves). My plea to them was to help their parents get them to school ON TIME! By getting ready the night before, going to bed earlier so it’s not so hard to get up in the morning, moving when mom or dad calls the first time. I impressed upon them that their ‘job’ was school at the moment and that the value of promptness is important – that one day when they are working, employers do dismiss employees who are consistently late or don’t turn in their work on time. So now parents, I make my plea to you for the sake of your children. School begins with prayer at 8:30 a.m. by 8:40 a.m. your teacher is already beginning class. Usually in the younger grades, reading and language skills is the most popular subject as the beginning course of study. When your child comes in – and students have already finished and are working on the assignment that reinforces the skill and drill of the ‘new’ concept – your child feels left out and already behind. In active teaching and learning, there is no way to make up – every thing and most of what they learn is not confined to paper. We know you care about your child’s education or you would not have chosen Villa Teresa School, but we as a school need to work on eliminating excessive tardies. Two thirds of our school population is to be commended for being here when we are supposed to be, but a third is too much of a group of little ones missing out. Classes in LC 3 and 4 begin at 9:00 a.m. K-4th begin at 8:30 a.m.

That was a big paragraph! But I must confess, Sr. Immaculata and I helped one of the Laotian families that we sponsored by staying with the family of 5 kids under age 8 while the mother delivered her 7th baby in a hospital for the first time. Getting ready that many for school and trying to match socks was horrendous! I never knew there was so many combinations you could have – and still none matched! Can you tell I’m an only child! (smile).

Thanks to all who signed up to help with our Auction. There is a meeting Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. I was particularly jumping for joy that two of our parents are helping with childcare. Thanks Rosie Butler and Erika Moore. We will have some teenagers also assist.

The principals for the Archdiocese are going on retreat this Wednesday – please pray for us as we take time to pray and reflect upon our mission to be your servants. All of you will be in my prayers in a very special way. God bless you. If you have questions or concerns, please direct them to Sr. Joseph Marie or Mandy.

INVENTORY: How have the celebrations in our society formed you? Do they implant attitudes of gratitude (Thanksgiving), affect how you think and feel about life (Christmas)? To “celebrate” is to “single out for grateful remembrance.”

INPUT: Keeping conscious of God is a key element in discipleship. Discipleship is a commitment to keep learning – it is a process of continual conversion. Disciple means ‘student” – one who learns in order to live more fully. The goal of learning is change and that is what Lent is all about.

INSIGHT: Do I appreciate the value of the “three R’s (remembering, reflecting, and responding) – using memory, intellect and will to absorb and respond to God’s words? Enough to do it?

INITIATIVE: Reflect 5 minutes a day on the mass readings used during Lent.

Our Archdiocesan meeting was very inspiring. We heard a speaker who returned to Oklahoma City after giving earlier workshop sessions with the Principals and Catechetical Leaders in the fall. Victor Valenzuela, an associate of Sadlier Company led the packed assembly of teachers and administrators through the process of how to integrate Catholic Social Teachings throughout the curriculum. His presentation called for an enthusiasm in working for justice and helping young people see why situations need to be corrected and how we can make our world a better place, beginning in our homes and continued at school and in the community at large. He helped us examine the importance of both direct service and social action. Some of the teachers were involved in curriculum mapping. This is a process that began in our Archdiocese last year where all teachers – grades 1-12 are creating a more uniform informational input on what is actually being taught. This process will eventually look like themes being taught in terms of units rather than by ‘textbook’. Looking at maps – online, you will be able to see at which grade level a topic is being taught and developed – teachers provide ideas that enhance the lesson on a wider scale so that there is a sharing and unification in our approach to education.

This was our Appreciation letter for the annual drive that continues, plus we also enclosed the PTO’s letter and pledge sheet for the upcoming auction, Saturday, April 24 at Remington Park. Last year, we had childcare at the facility, but we would like to offer it here at school. The children and parents are more comfortable in a setting that is familiar. If you would rather help with the childcare than go to the Soiree (dinner/auction), please let me know. We may even triple volunteer hours for that service!

This is a time of reflection and an opportunity to become closer to Our Lord. The Forty Days of Lent gives you time to walk with Jesus through the ‘valley’. So often we forget, He does need us to be with Him or is it we forget that He is with us – even in challenging times. The Church teaches that through prayer, sacrifice and almsgiving we imitate Christ’s love for us all.

We are hoping for a ‘normal’ week – but wasn’t last week a blast! We

have a couple of additions to our calendar for February. Tomorrow
morning, we are having our January Cooperating Hearts Awards ceremony

We hope the weather cooperates this time. The other addition is Dental
Screening on February 25. There will be a short presentation on how to

This week is Catholic Schools Week and a lot of fun for all! Each day we honor a very important part of the educational circle. Today is YOUR day! I am writing this Sunday night and hope that all of you will be aware that there is breakfast awaiting you. Please take a moment for a muffin, roll, juice or coffee on your way to work. Our PTO is hosting a “Come and Meet the Sisters” Spaghetti Dinner starting at 4:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. The proceeds will go to classrooms for learning materials. The PTO hopes to host one every other month – a fantastic way to build community and help others as well. Other dinners will help with scholarships and other projects.

January 25, 2010

Dear Families,

This weekend was gorgeous! I hope you were able to get out for a brisk walk and enjoy the sunshine. Thank you all for your contributions to our Haiti project. From last Wednesday’s out of uniform day, we raised an additional $285.29 making a total of $572.04 to be joined with all the other Catholic Schools in a heart-felt contribution for the restoration and assistance to the poor citizens of that bereaved country. Thank you also for all your prayers which I am sure helped Mr. Munai reunite with his family here in OKC and at Villa Teresa School.

Last week I mentioned the performances of Michael Reardon and Patrick Lane in the proclamations of the Gospels here in our area. They are here! Last Friday, Michael did a presentation for our little ones and he even remembered the third graders who were in first grade when he was last here (why am I surprised!). This Wednesday (Jan 27), he will be at Epiphany Church (7336 West Britton Rd) to present Revelation at 7:00 p.m. The following night he will be at St. Eugene’s (2400 West Hefner Rd) proclaiming the Gospel of Luke, also at 7:00 p.m. It will truly be an experience your family will never forget. Because this is his only livelihood, there is a freewill offering and a reception afterward for you to get to meet them.

Next week is Catholic Schools Week! We love celebrating the gift of our school in our lives. Each day is a day of Thanksgiving for all who help make our school wonderful! The first day is for YOU! Please stop when you come in the morning for breakfast. There will be a hospitality table in each building. Tuesday is Staff Day and we appreciate that very special luncheon for staff members and the time to get together and relax with each other. Wednesday is Community Day. I hope you have invited your employers and co-workers to come during that very special Open House just for them – 9:30 –11:00 a.m. We also will be delivering treats to our nearby neighbors as well as enjoying the “Meet the Sisters and Staff” at the spaghetti dinner beginning at 4:30 p.m. The cost of the dinner is $5.00 and all proceeds will be divided among the classrooms for educational materials.

Thursday is Kids’ Day and full of games and a movie in the afternoon. On Friday, we will conclude with a very special prayer service and cheers from all our various classes – 2 ½ year olds through fourth grade. A magic show will be the entertainment for the day.

I want to thank all of our Basketball Coaches! You are doing such a fantastic job. It is great to see the students learn how to work together as a team. It was reported to me that several other parents from other teams say they enjoy playing with our teams because the students are so kind – little things like stopping to pick up a player who may have tripped or patted them on the back when a basket was made – and they were to the opponents by our players – way to go! Villa Teresa Vikings (Shamrocks)!

Please remember in your prayers the soul of the mother of one of our cooks, Anna Henley who was buried last week. Anna is the grandmother to Matthew, Nicholas and Avery Lewis.

Mark your calendar for our next PTO meeting – Tuesday, February 9 at 5:30 p.m.

Menu for January 25 – 29, 2010

Monday, Jan 25 – Frito pie, cooked carrots, diced pineapples, milk

Tuesday, Jan 26 – Hotdogs, green beans, apples and milk

Wednesday, Jan 27 – Burritos, mixed vegetables, sliced pears, milk

Thursday, Jan 28 – Chicken nuggets, corn, bananas, milk

Friday, Jan 29 - Vegetable beef noodles, carrots, mixed fruit, milk

Thanks for bringing baby items – we’re still collecting! God bless you!

Immersed in Christ (Third Sunday in Ordinary Time)

A Bird’s-eye View

INVENTORY: If someone asked you, “What, in a nutshell, is the Good News?” What would you say?

INPUT: The goal and fruit of Christianity is a mystery. God is “greater than the human heart.” So we ask that our “Faults and weaknesses” will not “obscure the vision” and cause us to settle for less than the full mystery of the “peace you have promised.” The Good News holds up to us something that “exceeds the furthest expression of our human longing.”

Scripture: Nehemiah 8:2-10, 1 Corinthians 12:12-30; Luke 1:1-4, 4:14-21

INSIGHT: Can you sum up the Good News in five sentences? Five words?

INITIATIVE: Adopt the WIT prayer: “Lord do this with me, do this in me, do this through me.”
