Summer Friday Notes

June 12, 2009

Dear Families,

The children are having a fantastic time! It is good to see so many of our former students come back for Summer Program and all the others from other schools who have no summer program. This week we have been discovering God’s promises! Through scripture, our families and creation which surrounds us. God is good! Our theme next week is Discovering New Games.

On the door of the Big School, you will notice a sign – it says “No More Mechanical Games” – we tried it last Friday. Our students are just too generous! They want to share, but unfortunately with such expensive toys and inadequate instruction – and other things that attract little eyes, they are just too young to be as responsible as we like. Plus, it tends to just be a one person occupation and the little ones don’t interact with each other. So no mechanical games on Fridays – bring board games (other toys are acceptable if they can be put in a bag and kept in their lockers when not being played).

The Archdiocese requests we re-state our policy that protects our students, so periodically we remind you. The beginning of our summer program is a perfect time.

ABUSE OF MINORS PASTORAL RESPONSE HOTLINE (720-9878)

For the safety of children and the healing of victims, the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City provides an Abuse of Minors Pastoral Response Hotline for reporting the abuse of a minor (in the past or presently) by a member of the clergy or other church personnel. Calls to this number will be answered by the Archdiocesan Assistance Coordinator who will offer to meet with the caller in person, if the caller so desires. The Assistance Coordinator will also assist you in making a formal complaint to the Archdiocese, arranging a personal meeting with the Archbishop or his representative and in obtaining support and pastoral counseling. Calls are confidential with the following exceptions:

-                      Any allegation of sexual or physical abuse or neglect concerning those who currently are minors must be reported to the Oklahoma Department of Human Services (1-800-522-3511) as required by Oklahoma laws and Archdiocesan policies.

-                      Any allegation of sexual misconduct must be shared with the proper Archdiocesan authorities.

-                      Local law enforcement agencies may also be contacted.

The following week on Monday and Tuesday, we will welcome our Dads to come and swim with your little ones. We do it on Monday and Tuesday for the sake of our LC 3 and LC 4 Fathers. There are two swimming groups in those age groups. Fathers of older children can come to swim either day and have lunch with your child. So can those in LC 4, since lunch time is close to swimming time. Check your building for times of lunch and swimming. There is also a swimming schedule posted on the main bulletin board in the Big School.

Shannon, Sam and Anna Grace Waken want to thank everyone for your kindness in the loss of Keith. The family feels very supported by your prayers and many signs of care and concern. Let’s keep them in our prayers.
