Summer Friday Notes
June 19, 2009
Dear Families,
We are having a fantastic summer! This week is Discover New Games Week – this Friday’s activity is going to include Balloons and Water! Two favorites of children of all ages. This morning the children in K-fourth grade participated in a game from the workshop I went to last week. The game is great for making sure everyone knows each other. It’s called, “Where is Mrs. Mumble?” Have your little one share with you how it is played.
As a reminder, no DC’s, or mechanical games are brought for summer program – even on Fridays or day care days.
Monday and Tuesday, we are hosting our Fathers to come and swim with your little ones. If the swimming time is close to lunchtime or if you would just like to come for lunch, you are invited. In LC 3 and LC 4, the students rotate a Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday swim schedule, please check with your teacher as to what day they swim. K – 4th or 5th graders’ fathers can come either day.
Next week is Discover Laughter Week.
Emily Scott wishes to thank those who contributed and participated in the Autism Walk on June 6. It was a great experience that involved over a thousand people. Next year we hope to sponsor a whole-school team.
We have several new students this summer and we welcome everyone! One of the morning exercises we have implemented as a result of the Great Expectations workshop is the repetition of the Eight Expectations. One of the reasons I like the program so much is that it fits in with what we have in place already. Each year our staff chooses a Gospel value to practice and to model. This past year it was ‘Respect’. In all our prayer services, we reiterate what is expected in regard to the Gospel value and living as Jesus requires of us. There are a few who try their misunderstanding of the standards we uphold. The Lord requires us to be patient, to welcome those who need our help. But He also expects us to do the right thing – treating others as you want to be treated. We ask your cooperation in regard to your children when they make the wrong choice to not do the right thing. We have a procedure – because we are obligated to provide a safe environment for all students (and staff). When one chooses to make the wrong choice, they are counseled – most of the time we try to redirect the activity and encourage team building and cooperation. Some respond to this positively, some do not respond – some rebel. When you are called because a child is not cooperating – please talk with your child. If the behavior is repeated, and we call for you to come to remove a student, please come immediately. They must understand that such behavior is not welcome at Villa Teresa School. We want to help you and your child to receive the best benefit of our services, but that can only happen when parent, school and student are cooperating.

There are two kinds of persons in the world: those who think first of difficulties and those who think first of accomplishments in spite of the difficulties. (Samuel Warren)
