Monday Notes

April 14, 2008

Dear Families,

Thank you for your attendance at our Open House. Though there were parties and games and many out of town, we really had a great turn out! The students and teachers enjoy preparing an overview of the curriculum offered at Villa Teresa School. One of our special guests, Jimmy Nix (who funded the majority of the funds for our Smart Boards) came to receive in-service on what they are able to do. He recently has contributed to help with obtaining two additional ones for our kindergarten classrooms. Another special guest was an alumnus from the 40’s, Sandra Price.

Our Yearbook Chairpersons, Matt and Amber Frost had available order forms for our Yearbook for this year which will be available at our next Open House, August 16, 2008. We are planning to have the Baby Pictures with special ‘Love Notes’. The picture with a love note and $5.00 is due May 9, 2008. Please make the check to Villa Teresa PTO. Year Books are $25.00. You will receive a notice soon of other ways you can help us keep the cost down for publication. Please send us pictures if you have any from our various activities.

Dr. Beth DeGrace is offering “A New Perspective on Child Behavior: An Introduction to Sensory Processing and Self Regulation Strategies” this Thursday, April 17 with continuing sessions on April 21 and 24 from 5:15 – 6:30 p.m. Please return the registration form as soon as possible. This series serves as our Parenting Class for this school year and would also be great for our teachers to attend. Bring a friend.

Our auction committee is working diligently and would like to thank everyone for their enthusiasm. We have some really wonderful donations. The teacher baskets could use some help. The baskets for Sr. Ha, Mrs. Balloon, Sr. Joseph Marie are completed. The baskets for Ms Hope and Ms Angela are practically full. The themes are: Movies (Sr. Mary Frances), Cooking (Ms Mary’s), Games (Ms Payne’s), Spa (Ms Turner’s), Computers (Ms Herd’s), Summer Fun (Ms Chivonne’s), Picnic (Ms Hill’s), Scrapbooking (Ms. McClary’s), Reading (Ms Linda’s) and Wine and Cheese (P.E.). One of the third graders asked if you can share with another theme basket – the answer is a definite yes. Your attendance is also important. Last week you should have received your ticket form. Please return as soon as possible, feel free to duplicate and invite others. If you didn’t receive this in the mail, please stop by the office. Ms Nancy has made beautiful classroom plates with your child’s name imprinted. This is the best part of the evening to see parents bid against each other. Ask those who attended last year about the “Battle of the Allens”!

Time is really flying!

Immersed in Christ (Fourth Sunday of Easter)

INVENTORY: Where is my religion taking me? Do I experience it as leading me somewhere besides heaven? Where am I this year as compared to last year? Did I get there by consciously, explicitly following Christ? In what ways?

INPUT: Knowing Jesus as the shepherd who heals us continually, let us follow by 1. interacting with him, giving him an active part as Savior in everything we do; 2. learning from him as disciples; 3. accepting empowerment from the Holy Spirit to give flesh to his words in action as prophets; 4. letting him express his love through us by ministering to others as “priests in the Priest”; and 5. working with him  as stewards of his kingship to establish the reign of God on earth.

Scripture:  Acts 2:14, 36-41; 1 Peter 2:20-25; John 10: 1-10

INSIGHT: What is “wanting” to those who follow Jesus? What to those who do not?

INITIATIVE: Be conscious you are moving. Keep looking ahead to see where you are going, and back to see where you have been.
