Monday Notes

April 7, 2008

Dear Families,

What a beautiful weekend we had this past Saturday and Sunday. Our Saturday looked as if it were a weekday. At LC 4, Sr. Mary Frances and Donna Mills (VTM) were conducting the Gesell Developmental Screening. At the Big School, the electricians were giving power to our SMART BOARDS for grades one through four and in front of the convent Eagle Scouts were making a beautiful brick border for our gardens. Next weekend will be just as busy with Open House. We hope all of you will come and see the wonderful projects your class has been working on, plus to meet your next year’s teacher. Open House gives you the opportunity to get a broad view of our curriculum in action, plus get acquainted with other extracurricular activities. Since we are going into our 75th anniversary year, you will not want to miss any celebrations.

Preparations for the auction are going very well, except for classroom baskets – Sr. Joseph Marie has hers ready for the library and one of the three baskets in LC 3 looks really good. Mrs. Nancy has the OU Basket beautifully decorated. Check your teacher’s letter to see what your theme is and let’s work to get those baskets ready! You should receive your invitation/ticket in the mail this week. You really want to come! One of the most exciting moments of the evening is the bidding for the classroom plates which are made by Ms Nancy with all the students for each class on the plates. Childcare for the evening will be offered at school.

PTO is tomorrow (Tuesday) at 5:30 p.m.  Hopefully by the end of the week, we can have a ballot for you to consider for PTO officers next year. The ballot will be sent home and we want all of you to have the opportunity to choose your leaders.

Our service project this month is St. Jude’s Research Hospital. Donations  are being collected to help children who have cancer and other terminal diseases. Our K-fourth graders participate in the Math-a-thon and LC 4 students will have a Trike-a-thon.

All families are asked to bring two dozen of cookies by Friday, for our Open House which is this Saturday, April 12 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. There will be interest tables for Sports, Scouts (Boy and Girl), Dance, Guitar and in the library, Piano classes. We will also be offering our Safe Environment training for those who have not gone through the program. In each classroom, teachers will be demonstrating their new Smart Boards.

Immersed in Christ (Third Sunday of Easter)

The Joy of Life in Christ

INVENTORY:  What gives me the most joy in life? Do I think of my religion primarily as a source of joy? What do I think religion is? How do I experience my own religion?

INPUT: The Entrance Antiphon declares that the whole world should find joy in God: “Let all the earth cry out to God with joy.”We have everlasting life because we “have become Christ” (St. Augustine). This is why we are children of god: because we are ‘in Christ,’ the ‘only-begotten son of the Father.’ If we live as Christ now, we will experience the joy of his life.

Scripture: Acts 2:14-33; 1 Peter 1:17-21; Luke 24: 13-35

INSIGHT: What in my religion gives me joy? What would happen if I focused on it with faith?

INITIATIVE: Decide to identify and absorb everything in my religion that is a source of joy.

*** Today, Michael Reardon and Patrick Lane visited our classrooms and gave a brief program to our K –fourth graders. Don’t miss his proclamation of John (April 9 at Epiphany, 6:30p; April 10 at St. John the Baptist, 6:30 p and St. Francis on April 15 at 7:00 p.).
