Feast of St. John of the Cross, Carmelite

Dear Families,

I just viewed some of the photos of the Snow Tubing at the Brick! What a great time everyone had!!! Especially some of the parents – hope all is well and  no broken bones! As I was giving my farewells to families as they left school, I could only think of the theater phrase “Don’t break a leg!” I haven’t heard of any such tragedies – so I’m assuming no news is ‘good news’! Especially since our grand Christmas Program is this Tuesday at McGuinness High School at 7:00 p.m. I hope everyone has received their information from their classroom about the particulars – costumes and fee of $3.00 per family. Today, you will receive an order blank for the DVD of the program. Yes, it’s being recorded by Lifetime Videos – this is certainly a memory you want to preserve forever. The DVD will cost $15.00 and checks are to be made out to Lifetime Videos. Return order blank with check to the main office.

The Book Fair was a fantastic success! So many teachers, students and Grandparents had a blast!!!! Thanks to Constance Burris and Carol Alexander- co-chairs and numerous parents who were dedicated storekeepers. Thanks for all your hard work (but I’m thinking you had as much fun as the ‘shoppers’).

This is the last week of the semester and full of events. Girl Scouts is today at 4:00 p.m. and everyone is practicing for the program and also caroling (third and fourth graders). Our older students will be singing at St. Anthony Hospital on Wednesday, Dec 16 in the morning. Our other closest neighbors will also be blessed by their beautiful singing.

Our Advent Mass is this Friday, at 9:00 a.m. with Fr. Juan, OCD returning. One of the very special events during this Mass is the procession of gifts for poor children as part of the offertory. I hope each of you have purchased this gift. The gift needs to be at the school by Thursday, Dec 17 – wrapped with a tag indicating if the gift is for a boy or girl and the age of the child who would enjoy it.

As a reminder, next week – Dec 21 – 23 and the following Dec 28- 31 is day care only. We are closed on Christmas Eve and of course, Christmas Day. During the break – Cub Scouts is on Tues, Dec 22 at 5:30 p.m. and Girl Scouts is Monday, Dec 28 at 4:00 p.m.

May the peace and joy of this Advent season be with all of you. Know of the prayers of your Carmelite Sisters and the staff and faculty of Villa Teresa School.

Immersed in Christ (Third Sunday in Advent – Jesus Saves us from Sin)

INVENTORY: What keeps me from “rejoicing in the Lord always”? Is it mostly things outside of me that take away my joy or things inside of me? Are these things under my control? Does God have power over them?

INPUT: Advent is dedicated to looking forward. The third Sunday is called “rejoice Sunday.” The third candle which is pink is lit. We rejoice because we realize that with the Lord with us and within us we have everything we need for the fullness of joy –forever.

Scripture: Zephaniah 3:14-18; Philippians 4:4-7; Luke 3:10-18

INSIGHT: Do I have any real reason for sadness? For anxiety? What is God for me?

INITIATIVE: During Advent focus on unselfishness and “random acts of kindness.”

Due to Christmas caroling, the noon meditation group will not meet this Wednesday.
