Monday Notes
December 7, 2009
Dear Families,
Thank you so much for the wonderful support you’ve shown Liz Wilson and her two children, Michael and Rachel Deutsch. We really appreciate the outpouring of volunteers that came to supervise the classes of teachers who taught Michael.
Thank you also for the prayers for Mandy, she is doing fine! And most likely will be back today at work. Please continue to pray for Mrs. Matzek who is still recuperating and hopes to be back sometime this week.
Please remember in your prayers, the husband of the principal at Rosary who suddenly died Saturday.
Today we bury our own Sr. Joan Marie who taught 24 years at McGuinness High School and is mostly known as “Hermana”. If you would like to pay respects before 2:00 p.m. today, she is at the convent. We have the custom of bringing the body home the night before the funeral Mass and taking turns praying a holy hour in an all-night vigil. You are most likely receiving this via e-mail on Sunday – the Wake is at 6:00 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Church (Sunday) and the Funeral is Monday at 3:00 p.m. at St. Joseph’s. Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery.
Today, the children received treats from St. Nick! So did the teachers! St. Nick is the patron Saint of children. He was a Bishop who took care to provide for the poor.
This Friday is our Snow Tubing event courtesy of the Oklahoma City Community Foundation. Most of you have turned in your reservations. By Wednesday, you will receive the waiver that will be your admitting ticket. I am sure you will enjoy such an exciting event!
Kathy Johnson was so excited to begin the awesome task of counting the Campbell Soup labels. There is good news and bad news! Good news – there were so many of them!!!!! Over a thousand! Bad news – most of them were trimmed to include only the face – that won’t count. When you save your labels, make sure you include the UPC code with the picture of the cute little guy. We don’t want credit to go down the drain. Kathy tells me that with a million labels we can get a mini-van for the school. But then, I informed Kathy that mini-vans are not allowed for transporting children in the Archdiocese.
Today begins the Book Fair. The students are so excited. We open with a new event this year. Grandparents can come and shop with their grandchildren and enjoy special treats at 2:30 – 3:30 p.m. Regular hours for the rest of the week is 3:30 – 6:10 p.m.

Immersed in Christ (Second Sunday in Advent) Jesus Gives Meaning to Life
Inventory: What am I contributing to life on this planet? The entrance antiphon at Church promises: “The Lord will come to save all nations.” Am I interested in bringing about a renewal of society beyond the boundaries of my own work and family?
Input: Jesus came to establish the “reign of God” on earth, a “kingdom of truth and life, a kingdom of holiness and grace, a kingdom of justice, love and peace. One of the things that we must appreciate to be in union with God on this earth is the goal of bringing about the reign of God in the world. During Advent, we ask God to ‘remove’ obstacles by the ‘power’ that makes him able to, and the ‘mercy’ that makes him want to. Advent invites us to believe in God’s power and in his mercy.
Scripture: Baruch 5:1-9; Philippians 1:4-11; Luke 3:1-6
Insight: Do I see Jesus as an exciting leader to follow? Why?
Initiative: Write out a “profession of hope” Jesus Christ. Make explicit what you hope your relationship with him will do to give direction and purpose to all you do.
Remember: If you’d like to bring your lunch and share faith from 11:50 – 12:50, we will discuss next Sunday’s readings.
