Monday Notes

January 9, 2012

Dear Families,

Happy New Year!  I’m still getting adjusted to writing 2012! Last week’s weather was glorious!  This week will be a bit cooler, please make sure your little one is dressed warmly. All items need to have your child’s name on them. We try to stress the importance of responsible care of their personal items, but it helps for names to be on their items so we know to whom to seek when they are missing. I also want to encourage you to check the names periodically. Sometimes others may have the same style and accidentally take someone else’s coat or bookbag.

Tomorrow is PTO Meeting. We look forward to seeing you attend. It begins at 5:30 p.m. Realizing some of you cannot come, we do try to keep you in the loop of important announcements. When I receive the minutes, generally I send them out in this format of emailing. They can also be found on the PTO website. Due to time constraints, past minutes will be sent to you by the end of this week.

Congratulations to YOU! We received a check from our BoxTop collections of $1,084.34 just after Christmas! That’s awesome!  The competition is big- Ms Marilyn leading and several close behind. A big thank you to Mrs. McKinley for keeping up with all those tallies.

We still collect Campbell Soup labels, too and remember if you have a Target card, credits can be applied to Villa Teresa School. Homeland (61119) also is another project. Someone did start us on a Buy For Less School supply grant where receipts are collected. Any volunteers to keep up with that project? Please let me know (smile).

The committee for Catholic Schools Week has wonderful activities planned. To get you prepared to take the ‘plunge’, you can start jotting down why you love Villa Teresa. You might also mark in your calendar to join us for a bit of breakfast Monday, January 30th. Also plan not to cook on Tuesday, January 31 and join us for Spaghetti with the Sisters starting at 4:30 p.m. ($10.00 per family). We will be collecting baby items for BirthChoice, OKC starting January 12, 2012. Please bring all items to place on tables in front of the office.

We all know the challenges we have in parking. This week I hope to return to a previous practice for our K-4th graders. There is an entrance from Dewey Street between the garage apartments and LC 4’s playground. From 7:00 – 8:15 a.m. we will have the gates opened for you to drive through – your child will be able to enter through the cafeteria side door and be signed in. This will free up parking out front for our LC 3 and LC 4 patrons. The only time this will not work is when delivery of groceries is made which varies. If you see the gate closed, a delivery is expected then you would resume parking and then walking your child into the school building.

Immersed in Christ (Second Week in Ordinary Time  - for Sunday, Jan 15) We are Called and Sent

INVENTORY: What is your most constant preoccupation? In being aware of that, what are you less aware of? What might you be losing sight of altogether?

INPUT: We know that often God’s will is not done, and people block the good he desires to bring about. So we pray, “Help us to embrace your will.” And add: “ Give us the strength to follow your call so that your truth may live in our hearts, be seen in our actions, and reflect peace to all who, through what they see in us, will be helped to believe in your love.”

Scripture: 1 Samuel 3:3-10; John 1:35-42; 1 Corinthians 6:13-20

INSIGHT: What is your name? Who gave it to you? What does it mean? How can you find out?

INITIATIVE: Listen to what God is calling you to do. Find yourself in it.
