Monday Notes

May 18, 2009

Dear Friends,

The last week of school! Wow! Didn’t this year fly? May the Lord bless you and your family this summer – many of you will still be with us (yea). Please encourage your children to bring home items from their desk as the week goes on. Our last day of formal classes is this Wednesday. We will be having several fun events this week! Monday, our piano and violin recital is at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday is our Kindergarten graduation at 10:00 a.m. and a presentation of the Irish Jig by Third and Fourth graders at 3:00 p.m. The Fourth grade graduation is at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday followed by a cookout and swimming party for our graduates. The Boy Scouts Court of Honor will do a flag ceremony for graduation. We have many traditions at Villa Teresa – the scavenger hunt is a big event for the Fourth graders.

We have enough for the children’s choir on Saturday, May 23 for our Closing of the 75th Anniversary year, but we still need a confirmation of those of you who are attending. We want to thank God for the guidance and support of Villa Teresa School since its beginning in 1933. There will be extra parking across from the church at the Post Office as well as at the High Rise Apartments (compliments of the parishioners). There will be a reception following the 4:00 p.m. Mass. St. Joseph’s is on 4th and Harvey across from the Memorial. Let’s fill the Church!!!!

I was excited to see so many sign up to Walk for Autism on June 6th . There are contribution containers at the entrances of each building. Please donate to this worthy cause – finding a cure for Autism.  For more information, click on Autism Speaks. Those who are interested in a fun morning on June 6th, please register to walk with us. There are fun activities for children as well as the sense of unity in working to help those less fortunate than ourselves. I am touched by a big brother who prays for his little brother during our morning prayer – that researchers find a cure. I am also humbled by the trust of the little brother who looks endearingly at those around him – trusting us all to help him be the best he can be. Join us for a fun and awarding effort to help those with autism, especially our own.   http://www.walknowforautism.org/oklahoma/jimisleague

Thank you so much for a fantastic year! We have grown so much in our investment in Villa Teresa School – so many of you volunteered! Your gift of time and energy has been rewarding  - the community spirit has been awesome! Let us continue to build the Kingdom! For those of you not with us this summer – know you will be in our prayers.

Wednesday is the last day of school so report cards will be in the office. Please remember only those who are current can come to receive your child’s card – also books from the library will need to be returned before you are able to get your child’s card. This year more than ever we have had many respond to early enrollment – such a great help in planning and ordering! Thanks so much! We are already at 220 for the Fall. Kindergarten has closed enrollment as also students for LC 3 (there are only about five spaces in the 2 ½ year class). In LC 4 there are about 8 spaces left. I would like more students for our fourth grade class – as you well know, even one year with us will make a difference – so spread the word!

Next school year we will be having several new staff members. In fourth grade, Jeanie Ciupak (she will also be teaching swimming this summer); second grade, Melissa Little and LaWanda Mensak. We want to thank Lori Payne for the time she’s been with us and wish her well in her new endeavor. We are still looking for an additional teacher for our pre-school. Mrs. Glick will be assisting in starting a new business endeavor – but will be with us a little while in Ms Herd’s class while Mrs. Herd is on maternity leave. We are also looking for a teacher for our 2 ½ year old class.

Our summer notes will be on Fridays. We look forward to a Great Summer! Discovering about our Wonderful World!

Immersed in Christ (Experiencing the Spirit of Christ)

INVENTORY: What gives me the greatest joy in life right now? Does it ever cause me to say to God, “How awesome are your deeds!”?

INPUT: We rejoice because God is giving us new life and extending this life to the whole world. Love can’t keep joy to itself. The Church rejoices because the power of the risen Jesus is shown in the extension of his saving love to every person on earth.

Scripture: Acts 10:25-48; 1 John 4: 4-10; John 15: 9-17

INSIGHT: When do I feel most united to Christ: when I am condemning others for their faults or nurturing them with love? When I am “standing up for the law” or adapting the law with love?

INITIATIVE: Use “the fruit of the Spirit” – love, joy and peace – as a “rule of thumb” to discern whether you are thinking with the “mind of Christ.” (Galatians 5:22).
