MONDAY NOTES

February 1, 2010

Dear Families,

Blessings to you! This week is Catholic Schools Week and a lot of fun for all! Each day we honor a very important part of the educational circle. Today is YOUR day! I am writing this Sunday night and hope that all of you will be aware that there is breakfast awaiting you. Please take a moment for a muffin, roll, juice or coffee on your way to work. We appreciate your dedication to Villa Teresa School and are filled with joy that you chose us to help you educate your child. Today you will also be receiving thank you notes from your children.

Tomorrow, we are grateful to our wonderful PTO for sponsoring a luncheon so that all teachers and staff members can sit and enjoy each other. Thank you to all parent volunteers who are watching our students. We hope you are enjoying that experience (smile).

We have such great volunteers! Thanks to Adam Metzler for shoveling the majority of the sidewalks on Sunday so that we can safely get from one building to another.

On Wednesday, we hope you have invited your ‘boss’ and co-workers to come for our Neighborhood Open House. Tours will be conducted by our third and fourth graders and refreshments will be served. Hopefully, the snow will all melt so we can deliver muffins to close by neighbors. That afternoon, we have a new attraction! Our PTO is hosting a “Come and Meet the Sisters” Spaghetti Dinner starting at 4:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. The proceeds will go to classrooms for learning materials. The PTO hopes to host one every other month – a fantastic way to build community and help others as well. Other dinners will help with scholarships and other projects.

On Thursday, its Students’ Day – a day filled with games and a movie in the afternoon.

Friday, we will have a closing prayer service and entertainment by the teachers. There may even be a magician (?!?). For certain, the students will return the entertainment by demonstrating their original cheers.

Our service projects this month are varied. Thanks to all for the baby items displayed by the front office. This is the last week for that collection. We had a surprise project after the devastation in Haiti. Thank you for helping your children collect $600. This month we will also participate in Jumprope for Hearts.

Our students (1st –4th graders) have been working hard to prepare for the Archdiocesan Spelling Bee. Our final bee will be Friday the 19th. This competition will determine who will represent us in the Archdiocesan competition on March 30.

Mark your calendar for Tuesday, Feb 9 PTO Meeting at 5:30 p.m. We’ve already begun to work on the auction. Please join us tomorrow, Feb 2 at 5:15 p.m.

Due to the snowstorm, our Cooperating Hearts Awards for January is Tuesday, Feb 9 at 8:35 a.m. (K-4th graders) and 9:00 a.m. (LC 3 and 4).

Our next Mass is Friday, February 12 at 9:00 A.M. with Fr. Jim Goin.  On Ash Wednesday, we will have a special prayer service with the distribution of ashes.
